My point is that plenty of teams are building chemistry with short term players. Its harder, but it is happening. In the IL the reasons are different but the point is the same.

Chemistry is built over time, over hundreds of practices, dozens of games. The chemistry that Lee and Pierce had was cultivated over 3 years. As some of the more talented guys transfer, you’re left with less experienced, less talented guys. Mediocre basketball. Or worse.
An interesting question then becomes one of figuring out what styles of play can be a) quickly taught and coordinated, while b) fitting the talent available, and c) being effective in competition. Previously only b and c were in play. And maybe a) is affected by teaching ability of the staff as well.

Yup- it’s on the coaches to restructure approach, recruiting, style of play on the fly. Challenges ahead like never before.
