Dartmouth/Harvard II

really thought we had it in regulation.

2 point blank looks + a layup to go up 2.

regardless amaker spreads us out well and our 1h’s against harvard have been pretty gross.

going smaller helped in a way though you’d rather do it with townsend than without.

celiscar/simmons bully ball worked enough. simmons d was stellar on hinton and the block on battie 3 was elite

also think amaker has outcoached james 3x in a row. he makes some slight adjustments on d which has us flummoxed at the start

we seem content to bully ball which us fine but eliminated dribble hand offs whicb helped

we refuse to adjust defensively beyond one zone possession

the adjustment i would make against harvard is run townsend at the 5 and insert brathwaite/fox.

basically you add a shooter and brathwaite plays excellent defense on the perimeter and can stretch the floor.

you start your sets high but you have a crash down with townsend or celiscar (and even simmons). i dont think they can guard any of them down there. tonight, they had some key picks and blocks but you won the game down there even without townsend.

worst case it also spreads the floor for better 3s which strangley is a strength as you have 5 takers and makers on the floor at once

imo this would play to strengths while mitigating some weaknesses

So you’d use Aletan off the bench? Meanwhile Harvard had ten steals and six blocks tonight. Tough to overcome that but Yale squeaked one out.

yale hammered the offensive glass late which won the game as both teams hit timely shots

yea the beginning was gross and we adjusted some on offense but my fear is more on defensive end

on aletan, yes. or i would mix zone in but he hates that bc he thinks he loses hus rebounding advantage

so use aletan esp to counter their big but more spot as they corrupt passing lanes and we cant use him effectively anyway

Does Yale need fewer Celiscar minutes?

That’s a strange question. Do you want to explain the thinking behind it? I’d say just the opposite.

we should play him less if we want to sandbag ivy games and finish 4th or worse

Just find myself wondering does offense come a lot easier when fox or braithwaite is on the floor and defense seems just as good

Celiscar is Yale’s second leading scorer (12.3 ppg), second leading rebounder (5.4 per game), second in assists (3.1 per game), and has a 55.3% FG rate and an 81% FT rate. Fox and Brathwaite are also great but nothing about Celiscar’s game looks problematic to me (ok, he’s not so great taking threes but his job is to be in the paint). Let’s just hope the three sophomores return for next season where you’d expect them to be leaders on the team.

celiscar is a unique talent for yale.

we should hope and pray we dont lose him or any of the sophs for that matter.

we saw this against the elite-a&m and bama. he is a special athlete with crazy man strength

when we play against effective small ball we should insert brathwaite or fox (as i detailed above) but for gosh sakes dont sit isaac unless we want to lose

celiscar and brathwaite are better on ball defenders than fox at this juncture though they guard different positions.

for the record harvard was a guaranteed loss without isaac. he saved us making timing of the question esp odd

townsend is also out for penn

If Townsend can’t play (I see that stated as a fact in the Yale Daily News article today but they don’t cite a source), Celiscar needs to step up and fill much of the role Nick plays. Isaac already has a full slate of minutes so Townsend’s minutes will need to come from others - presumably the guys in the current rotation will be asked to do more but also Sullivan and Ogunyemi?

yes i heard “highly doubtful” from a better source than a student reporter.big loss

i like the idea of giving daniel a chance for minutes and switching a defense more just than 20 secs bf half

will be challenge as penn has some size and skill down there

Assuming concussion for Townsend?

Doubt Vegas will account for Townsend’s injury but I’m not sure I trust Penn to stick with Yale’s athleticism even without our best player

10.5 is a lot without townsend so yea maybe vegas has a better mole. i think the ivy can use better gamesmanship than most w no media during week

but i took “highly doubtful” at face value
