Weâre officially out of ivy madness and played the worst game so far this season. If we donât get a new coach for next season I donât know when we will, honestly
Maybe unofficially out - 7 and 7 can still get you in; but I know Iâm really reaching.
There are so many frustrating elements of Jim Englesâ tenure at Columbia. But whatâs shocking to me has been the inability to develop any of this junior class.
Avery Brown clearly cares, puts in the work, etc. But goodness, he is just not a good player. Cannot finish around the rim. Cannot make any sort of outside shot. Makes poor passes, gets blocked, always misses clutch free throws. Him, Blair Thompson, Bedri â none of them have blossomed into capable players in this league.
I could go on and on about Engles. Schedules the easiest non-conference in the country, gaslights everyone into thinking theyâre really good. They have the worst 3-point defense in the country, and never make any adjustments.
If Engles returns next year, it will be truly gutting. I have no issue with his personality or postgame interviews with Lance (who is the corniest pxp guy of all time). I just donât think heâs capable of doing the job.
Look at WBB, baseball, football, etc. Winning at Columbia shouldnât be tough. Engles has made it look downright impossible.
Very good observation. The promise surrounding the junior class is the reason Engles has survived. Coming out of Covid, they went 4-22 but had recruited what many considered the best class in history. Brown was the highest rated recruit we have ever had. Unfortunately, there have been 3 years of unfulfilled expectations from this class.
