NCAA Texas A&M

Sat next to a Michigan fan on the flight home.

You take back Danny wolf and you beat a&m and then you beat us (addition/subtraction).

“You had no size in the paint when your big guy got in foul trouble early. Danny is a good rebounder too.”

Yep. They get older and we get younger and smaller. That’s the reality. It is hard to beat grown men in March.

basketball is now about the Benjamin’s.

You need Benjamin’s to buy the jimmy and Joe’s.

Unm has Benjamin’s but less than the sec/big10/big12.

This was well telegraphed and I am exhausted from forecasting it. Hard to root for a pitino but this would be a last stand for the midmajors.

With Colorado State’s loss to Maryland, there is no team left in the tournament seeded 11th or lower. The power conferences have asserted themselves.

The only thing left to speculate and debate is how long until they eliminate the automatic bid…

Vicky Chun, Yale’s ad, wasn’t particularly engaging when I raised it to her at the pregame tailgate.

:joy:

Is the older piece of that partially related to a hangover from the COVID era? Will there continue to be 24 and 25 year olds eligible going forward? But are they also thinking of adding a fifth year of eligibility? Very interested to see how the portal process unwinds this year for the Ivies.

as of now, yes. covid extended eligibility to 5 years.

last i heard the ncaa ( which has been largely defanged) was considering extending it to 5 years. I dont know where this stands other than a quick AI search…my guess is the house settlement expected soon on revenue sharing based in part on a court case will factor in to whatever changes.

i am surprised by the runaway NIL inflation i quoted under a different topic on this board. This being said, i am also encouraged as to Ivy recruiting so far as I have posted recurringly, particularly Yale’s.

i do believe that 5 year eligibility is a major problem and why i was so bullish on the SEC going in to this tournament and concerned how we match up with grown men particularly in the lane.

also fwiw bc i enjoy this board…Yale’s team apparently had a sickness break out. It is unclear when–before or after the NCAAs. One starter was admitted to the hospital upon his return to New Haven.
this is from a student close to the team. I consider it a good source but I obviously cant confirm it.

sorry to hear that. Kids look forward to
getting on this national stage, and then
illness or injury takes it away.

So far I we as right on the sec being a momentum stock you buy into the tournament.

In general the board was also right that a&m was the best matchup for us.

But I was also right in my assessment of Payne based on auburn tape.

It will be interesting to see if UM can match up outside the paint. Payne torched them as he did us

But this auburn-UM matchup will be fascinating

Danny was bothered by Broomes physicality/athleticism last year and was not great. He’s a leveled up player now (especially physically) but this will be a good test for him being a projected lottery pick

yea i feel like the um guards are several notches below auburn’s this year.

auburn improved in the portal and traded their pg to um ironically.

that said all your points are valid and i do hope danny plays well.

yale is getting a lot of positive press in the atlanta regional because of danny and this impending auburn matchup.

it is bittersweet but he certainly has taken the high road which is good to see. i hope he does well tonight

Tough to blame a guy who’s getting life changing money before 22, is practicing against better players, and has better exposure for NBA scouts. He made the right decision, hope he continues doing well.

solid 1h for wolf.

um really blew a chance to have a decent lead. golden has been awful so far.

danny with an interior dunk. he likely made money by doing that.

kenny ragging charles abt wolf from last year. we have gotten nice pr off wolf at least

Looks like the wheels are coming off for Michigan late in the second half. They can’t get a stop, and the turnovers are piling up on the offensive end of the floor.

Fourth foul on Broome is huge here.

guard disparity asserted itself as i suspected it would

wolf had little help

Auburn made their run, and Michigan folded. You’re right - Auburn’s guards outplayed Michigan’s at both ends of the floor.

Michigan got a good first half from Wolf
and a good second half from Golden.
Needed them both to be big all night.

michigans guards are very subpar

the coverages all changed and frankly auburn abused them on the boards

danny was good however and showed some year to year progression against a much better auburn squad than last year
