Interesting profile. Career D3 guy, played for Clark, has been head coach of CalTech for many years. Has an advanced degree in sports psychology. And did some work with the NBA summer league the last two seasons.
I do note that CalTech’s record leaves things to be desired. It looks like he never had a .500 season as coach and the last three seasons were 5-70.
If I’m not mistaken, one of Eslinger’s (recent) former players, Dorian Glogovac, has transferred to Penn. Glogovac was Caltech’s leading scorer last season.
The recent record does indeed leave something to be desired, though it’s worth noting that prior to Eslinger’s arrival, CalTech hadn’t won a conference game since 1985 - as documented by the NYTimes and Sports Illustrated amongst others.
Seems like a hire that’s slightly outside the box, but I like the thinking behind it. Interesting that they’ll now have two associate head coaches.
