Aaannnnd after going up 15, they go completely ice cold and squander their lead in 3Q, now trail by 5 after 3Q. It’s the Tigers who look disjointed.
Everything they were doing good in the game suddenly vanished. Terrible 3Q
Painful to watch this shooting exhibition.
Poor execution
Well I’m glad they got there but you can’t blow a game like that. Having trouble executing year to year in the tournie.
Easier said than done, but I wonder why coach didn’t give the slender Hill more help doubling ISU’s behemoth center.
I don’t understand either. Hill was completely exhausted and couldn’t anticipate Crooks anymore, yet she was still left alone against her for most of the second half. Belker did not have her day today. And Chea completely disappeared the second half. Looked like a team that couldn’t play anymore and was just hopping that the game ended as soon as they stepped out after half-time.
Pretty shocking collapse. Tale of 2 halves. Nevertheless, good experience for the young tiger team. Princeton in the clear #1 going into next season in IL WBB with Columbia the clear #2. The rest of the league appears on paper to be mediocre.
I’ve only watched the Tiger women three times this year–home against Columbia, Harvard in Ivy Madness, and the second half of tonight’s game. Sadly, in the first two, the Tigers took what seemed like commanding leads late and faded at the end. Tonight the score looked too good to be true when I got home from work and they fizzled in the second half. Great season, though, given that their best player went down with injury early in the season. They should be terrific the next couple of years.
Yeah, in almost all their losses this year they had third or fourth quarter meltdowns. Very strange. Coming-out strong after halftime used to be their strong suit.
Another strong game from Tall.
She has a complete game, and
may be our best player next year.
So, Mike, given your realm of expertise and unbiased nature, who’s the favorite to win Ivy League baseball this spring?
I’m not sure I have much expertise, and I doubt I’m unbiased most of the time but I do try to be somewhat civil on these boards. I have been around a while though and this loss today will become one of the most painful I’ve ever endured. However, by the weekend I’ll be eagerly anticipating next year. But to answer your question, ummm…probably Penn. I believe they have a number of good returnees. Baseball is difficult to evaluate accurately unless you dissect and delve into each team. Something I don’t do. I just observe from not quite afar but not really up close either.
There are probably others that peruse these boards that know way more than I do.
Thank you for the kind words.
Quite modest of you, Mike. Many of these self-obsessed Ivy affiliates we read could use a role model like you front and center in their lives. And my understanding is that you don’t observe so much from afar, as you do from 60 feet, 6 inches!
HA!! If I’m modest it’s probably because there’s really nothing about me to brag about.
Mike, you’re clearly one of the best we have; and you’d better believe it! In an attempt to help lift your spirits and to honor TigerFan’s suggestion that I show Yale some love before their tournament debut later this evening, I offer this musical composition: https://youtu.be/txQZ_ecR7zo?si=BeoZCzuMIEXj4B2A
As to predictions for next year in IL WBB, it’s always good to be optimistic and I think Princeton will contend. But saying Princeton is the “clear #1” and Columbia the “clear #2” - and the rest of the league “appears on paper to be mediocre” would I think draw some strong disagreement from the defending Ivy League Tournament champs in Cambridge. Columbia and Princeton both have a strong returning core group (though it isn’t clear to me when St. Rose might be fully recovered - ACLs sometimes take longer than expected to heal). But both “on paper” and from what I’ve seen on the court, Harvard will be more than “mediocre.” Despite the departure of Turner and Rodriguez, they return 3 starters (Anderson, Glenn-Bello and Chatira) and two others who played 20 minutes or more in the Final against Columbia (Wright and White). And Carrie Moore’s recruiting class of 5 looks impressive, especially Aubrey Shaw, who is ranked #43 on the ESPN-W 100 (for what’s it’s worth as comparison, Harmoni Turner was ranked #42 in her class, and in their class, St. Rose was #46 and Tabitha Amanze #43). It would not be a shock if Harvard is the media’s favorite next October, or at least the #2 pick.
That’s the spirit, anti!
Harvard this year was Harmoni Turner and a bunch of stiffs (no disrespect, its an expression). The rest of the team was mediocre. The 3 returning Harvard starters are not impact players. You’re correct that the incoming freshman are a wild card. So Im not certain in my prediction. Injuries are another wild card. Regarding Princeton, even if St Rose doesnt come back at all, they are still the clear favorites with thier super-sophmores. Regarding Columbia, they have returning players (Weiss, Page, Broom) that are better than anyone on the returning rosters of brown, cornell, dartmouth, harvard, penn, and yale. That’s my opinion. Page and Broom dont have the stats but they were not top of the depth chart this year.
Just to elaborate, Riley Weiss would be the preseason favorite for IL POY along with Ashley Chea. I wouldnt “trade” Mia Broom or Perri Page from Columbia for any member of the 6 aforementioned IL teams…but we have no idea which freshman will become a star. Harvard, Princeton, and Columbia all have strong recruiting classes on paper.
