Set a new Columbia single-game scoring record with 40 against Dartmouth, including 9 - 13 from three. If her “slump” is over, couldn’t have come at a better time with P and P next weekend.
Great performance. Most points scored in a game by a Lion in history of Levien Gym. A few Columbia men, including Rubio De La Rosa, had 37 at Levien. Buck Jenkins holds men’s overall record of 47 at Harvard.
Bella Alarie scored 45 there in 2019.
The disparity in talent between Columbia and Dartmouth was shocking yesterday, as the score indicated.
My opinion is that Riley Weiss and all of her teammates were tremendous last night against a decent Dartmouth squad that simply had the misfortune of playing against a Columbia Women’s Basketball Team that has improved dramatically in the last several weeks. No one knows better than our amazing basketball coach, Megan Griffith, how to turn on the jets and that is exactly what she has done since the 2026 New Year arrived in Times Square. Obviously, Coach G knows how to get the engines started and that is exacttly what she has done with the Lions. The Columbia-Princeton game being televised nationally on ESPNU next Friday should be special.
Griffith made some perceptive post-game comments. She said that the team was trying to mimic last year’s style and play beautiful when, given who they are, they should be playing gritty. The victories have come ever since they have embraced her vision as the best possible version of this team.
And I think Nasi was the first to understand this, and after what she did, everyone is following
The line is Princeton - 8. That’s reasonable if it’s Princeton versus earlier season Columbia. But Weiss scored 34 against Princeton last time, we have actually beaten some common recent opponents by larger margins, and Griffith seems particularly skilled in neutralizing Princeton’s strengths. Under these circumstances, a cautious optimism seems justified.
Note too that Simmons replaced Avlijas at the start of the second half against Dartmouth. She is, then, as you said, the lead player for this style of play.
Columbia’s Avlijas, Broom, Feldrappe, Henderson and Simmons are all great athletes and fun to watch on a basketball court. Their remarkable speed and athleticism is a challenge for Princeton.
