Top 25 Princeton athletes in history

For what art is worth, I find it easier to compare
Bella Alare and Chris Young, than an offensive
tackle and a pole vaulter.
These lists are fun, but can’t be taken seriously.

Whom did you rank higher?

Young. He played two sports, and had the better pro career.

No argument there. World Series trumps 4 AllIvy first teams

How about Snake Ames? Scored 72 touchdowns and had 60 points against Pennsylvania in a single game.

I read the Wikipedia page on him. Probably legitimate candidate, but he suffers the most from recency bias. Sad end.

The university has over 30 teams and has had athletes in numerous sports that are hard to compare. I think one of my contemporaries should rank higher - Lynn Jennings, who was called the best woman’s cross country runner of all time when she retired. Another former classmate and teammate - Henry Milligan - was one of the few to be favored in a boxing match with Mike Tyson in 1984, despite never having boxed until 1982 (3-sport star at Princeton). No one is represented from the national champion Team of Destiny of 1922 that won the national football championship. This list could go on and on, and we can discuss whether a shotputter is better than the guy who kicked a record-setting 65-yard field goal with a funny-shaped football in the 1800’s. Comparisons across sports and across 150 years are a tough ball game.

If you’re adding another WBB player, for my money it’s Blake Dietrick - led the 30-0 team, played in the WNBA for five years, also contributed to great lacrosse teams.

Probably not quite enough to crack the top 25 (still clearly behind Alarie imo) but in my next 5-ish.
