WBB vs Harvard

Against Harvard maybe, although a lineup of 5 under 6 foot players is always risky. I agree the defense would be unmatchable

Very tough loss for the Lions. We were cruising to start the 3rd quarter and then the wheels fell off. Page played really well but almost everyone else was horrific. They didn’t just play a little below expectations, they were really bad. Tough time to turn in a mass group of poor performances. Hopefully it’s a wake up call for the tournament.

Interesting postgame press conference by Coach G and Perri on the Columbia website:

We were awful in tne second half. Maybe the team thought that it was going to be a cakewalk given all the pregame chatter about Harvard’s top scorer having suffered a horrible season ending ACL injury the past weekend. Well, either that information was either totally inaccurate, or she made a remarkable recovery. In any event Ms. White and her teammates obviously shredded their counterparts in the second half. More than that, everyone including myself who commented favorably about the Columbia point guards during the run-up to last night’s game were just plain wrong. It was shocking how poorly they played.

Wow. Griffith did not have enough room under the bus for everyone she threw
there. "I coached great. Predict4ed everything they did, but my team did
not follow my brilliant plan. Not one word in praise of Harvard. Wow!

Under the circumstances, I can understand why she didn’t praise Harvard.? This was the third time this season that her Columbia team lost to an inferior opponent because they simply played poorly. They also played poorly against Cornell and Penn. This Columbia team is still a work in progress. Incidentally, every athlete hates it when his or her own coach says something nice about an opponent specially after a loss

She’s always been a hothead.

And every athlete loves it when their coach questions their heart?

The truth is she is right. If you are an athlete at this level, you have to be willing to take responsibility. Of course there is stuff that everyone could have done better, including the coaches. But if your team doesn’t execute most of the plans, and you are confident those plans were correct (it worked perfectly fine at harvard), why shouldn’t you let them know that the loss is on them? A player needs to know when they do things wrong to be able to improve. And Meg has always based her teams mentality in terms of accountability, she is just following that. I really don’t understand why other team fans come here to rant about her for no reason

Columbia’s success under Meg is primarily based on a great culture. That’s the number one reason the program is where it is. Meg has been demanding and tough on the kids from day one and the players love and respect her.

By the way, I don’t know how she made it given how bad it looked last weekend. I guess the ACL is not fully broken, and she played infiltrated and will undergo surgery after the season ends? Maybe medical tests showed it wasn’t the ACL? I don’t know. The truth is she played well and she makes this Harvard team be a much more scary opponent. Still, we should be able to beat them next Friday if we play to our standards and I still think once again we have a good chance of winning ILT.

Columbia rebounded well from bad losses to Cornell and Penn so that bodes well for the ILT. I have confidence we will beat Harvard, but am concerned about Princeton. They looked awful the last time Columbia played them, but seem to have regained their early season form.

She’s thrown her team under the bus before. A few years ago, she said the reason Columbia lost to Princeton was because they didn’t want it bad enough and Abby Shu didn’t take enough shots. The comment that surprised me was something along the line of Riley Weiss only plays well when she shoots well.

Rafiu can NOT get in foul trouble again. No one on the bench can replace her presence down low, and she has become an excellent passer - the offense flows much better with her on the floor.

Interesting comment that Griffith is a hothead. Did you watch the two losses to Columbia, Berube was totally unhinged in the losses, yelling at refs, running on the court like a maniac. She held the shortest press conference ever in the last game.

Griffith might be well served by shorter press conferences.
