I have no idea how good Georgia Tech is but a win over an ACC team must count for something.
GT picked 15th in the ACC preseason poll (there are now 18 teams in the ACC). Perhaps 26 turnovers is a hint as to why, but, absolutely, a good win to start the year!
I am a firm believer they are way better than this. The issue there is their main players are international, so their squad doesn’t look to have the talent from a US prespective. I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up top 10 in ACC.
A part from that, Princeton looked great. They look like a 25ish national team to me right now
Well, going by votes received, they would be 27th right now.
Sluggish first three quarters, but played like champs the last 10 minutes. Top-notch defensive effort. Maybe the 11 hour delay at EWR contributed to that initial sluggishness.
Maybe most games the three guards will carry the team, but I was beyond impressed with how Fadima and Olivia produced on a night where Skye had an off game
Georgia Tech has a decent ranking in the Massey computer ratings (38th before the game, 62nd after. Princeton now 38th; other relevant rankings: Maryland 23, Penn St 52, Columbia 54, Harvard 68, Belmont 71, Seton Hall 72, Temple 73, George Mason 79, Nova 80, URI 92, DePaul 99.
The team overcame a 12-hour delay at Newark Airport and stepped up in the 4th quarter when it counted. As I see it, the team is blessed with a lot of talent, and this was a promising start. But they have two problems, a lack of height and a skimpy roster – only 11 players. A couple of key injuries could do a lot of damage.
One of the 11 players, Cristina Parrella, did not make the trip to Atlanta, so I assume she is currently out with an injury. She’s not one of the stars but did play a fair amount as a freshman. As you say, if there are more injuries, that will take its toll.
Pretty sure I saw her on crutches at the soccer game last Thursday.
