2026/27 WBB Roster

I think Columbia is the Ivy favorite on paper going into next season with the emergence of Mia, Nasi, and Hilke in the WBIT and now these new additions. I was also impressed with Eirny’s defense. I would take this team over Princeton’s.

She’s sitting’ in a railway station, got a ticket for her destination… mmm.

I won’t forget Big Suz and the 100 wins.

As it stands now, before competitive practices and 6+ months before the season begins, my starting lineup is Weiss, Broom, Henderson, Stevenson, and Dritz.

You’re all a bit over-the-top about some of the newcomers.

Hilke Feldrappe was terrific in the post-seson tournament and is a skilled player who can score from anywhere. I see her in the starting line-up in place of Fliss Henderson unless the latter improves significiantly in the off-season. I agree with cc66 that Steven and Dritz are likely starters, but Fliss certainly has the edge in experience. I will leave it to Columbia9 or others to evaluate the other newcomers, namely Chloe Dix and Chloe Vella. Do we have any film on them/

Sleeping on our Swiss Army Knife Fliss again. All Ivy, lead the league in rebounds, tops for us in assists……

I agree with Columbia9 that Fliss is an excellent rebounder and was tops for the Lions in assists, but it seems unlikely that Coach Griffith will keep her in the starting line-up given all the talented newcomers she has recruited all of whom are likely to be much more productive scorers than Fliss. It also seems very unlikely that Fliss will be the starting point guard given that Mis Broom was the best point guard in the entire Championship Tournament.

Just like Shippen last year, right?

An emphatic maybe to your hesitation about the newcomers: Coming out of HS, Stevens was ranked 94th in the country; the calculus is that MG can build on what she did in the Big Ten several years ago, as opposed to underwhelming numbers at Stanford. Dritz was ranked #84 in this year’s class. I think she’s the highest ranked player we have ever recruited. If she’s fully recovered from injury, isn’t it highly likely that she would start?

Who knows? A lot of first year players are better off the bench. Avery Brown was the highest ranked men’s recruit ever and started day 1. Different talent level on the men’s team of course but you get the idea. He didn’t really pan out. She will get a shot to earn a starting spot. As for Stevens, she seems like a great pick-up who will help us. It’s been awhile since she’s been productive so hopefully she returns to form. That said, at this point her acquisition doesn’t make our frontline better than Princeton’s yet.

Also, I’m not hesitant. I’m taking a more composed and measured approach to evaluating the newcomers and predicting they’ll be part of the best WBB team ever.

I’d be very surprised if Fliss is not a starter or a 20-25+ minute 6th-woman off the bench next year. She brings so much game and will fill some of the void left by Perri Page. Hilke will also start or see a significantly increased role off the bench after her performance in the tournament. I would be surprised if any of the freshmen start. Transfers maybe (e.g. CeCe), freshman no - especially coming off an injury. Maria Avlias would likely see her minutes reduced with the emergence of Mia Broom. I hope Nasi Simmons sees her minutes increase because she is a force on defense and in transition. Eirny, Blau Tor, and Alicia Mitchell should get consideration for more minutes in the front court.

Abby Hsu started as a first year. If Dritz is of same skill level, she will too.

Will Dritz and/or other first year players contribute to wins next season? The short answer is…

Fadima Tall (Princeton) and Aubrey Shaw (Harvard) were given a higher rating (93) than Dritz (92) out of high school by ESPN’s Next 100. Neither one saw significant minutes their first season.

The context is completely different. Abby got to Columbia when we were a borderline ILT team.

I think that given her expirience and that we do not have a 5 that Meg has showed confidence on, Mary is very likely to be a starter. Even coming off the bench, she was great on a lot of games for Stanford. I think the big unkown is how the 3 and 4 positions will be filed. Fliss’ versatility and knowledge of the system makes it very likely she will start. Hilke is obviously a good option, given her postseason show. Dritz obviously has the skills to be considered as a possible starter, but we shall see if that materializes. Eriny has also considerable chances.

We could see Fliss-Hilke, Hilke-Dritz, Fliss-Dritz, Marija-Fliss, Hilke-Eriny. A lot of options and a lot of uncertainty. And probably the starting lineup in November won’t be the same in March.

Riley Weiss rode the bench her first year in favor of Fliss Henderson, even though the former was a three-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week. Meg’s inadvisable decision will likely cost Riley Columbia’s all-time scoring record.

What a ridiculous comment. One of our all-time great teams and rosters and you’re taking about 5-6 more minutes and a few more shots for a first year player.
