Tomorrow, Yale takes on its only Power 5 opponent of the regular season in Alabama. I’m interested to see how they come out of the exam break, and hopefully the defense will be at least somewhat improved.
bama guards will be a tough matchup for us😳
Yeah, I have nothing to say beyond “if you let Albany drop 82 on you, what’s Alabama going to do?”
(Albany usually scores 0.99 ppp, we let them score 1.12.)
Coach Jones’ Yale teams have always played at least respectable defense - since the 14-15 season, they’ve only finished out of the top half nationally twice - so I’m sure they’ll get things sorted sooner or later. If it’s “later,” though, this could be ugly. Hopefully Samson is fully healthy.
philon out at least😬
glad i cancelled my drive over. we look awful. cant rebound or make a shot and then there is the guard play delta. gross
Yup. The start was excusable, I think - just shot-making. But they’re getting out-physicaled on both ends, and you could tell it was starting to frustrate them. That’s why the wheels really came off at the end of the first.
The backcourt needs to get more comfortable playing physical basketball.
some of these easy drives are maddening esp when you cant guard the 3 point line to begin with
Our better Ivy teams are having a rough night. Cornell was right there with MSU for a half, like it was with GMU, and then got thoroughly blown out in the second half in both games. Yale on the other hand was never really in this one to begin with. Not often you will see a Jones team get beaten in just about every phase of the game, but that has been the case tonight.
this was a horrible matchup for us. but the rebounding and piss poor shotmaking are worrisome as is no philon
bama making 22 3’s and killing us on oreb’s is a recipe for disaster. we need more out of simmons and aletan. samson just doesnt appear to have it right now as evidenced by missing several follows which were easy dunks for him earlir in the year. not sure on simmons though he played hard. he is just off
townsend and celiscar are a handful but we have some v concerning attributes which were further exposed.
lastly the line bt the pro and amateur game is growing as evidenced by the guard play
Think I might sit this one out and not catch the game on tape delay. Hopefully a brutal loss will help the guys refocus and get a good few weeks of practice before Ivy play
Has Ogunyemi been hurt?
Not that I know of. He’s faced a tough route to playing time with the upperclassmen we have and Jones’ preference to bring freshman along slowly. Sullivan has been the emergency post above him so far and has looked quite good in limited minutes.
Ogunyemi has looked good in his opportunities though. Athleticism and strength really show out.
daniel is a 4 now and hopefully 3/4 in time.
he needs to develop 3 point range but has great touch to 17ft
he is a terror on the block given his footwork, body and hands. i bought stock his junior yr of hs but based on limited action so far wld add to it
I watched that game and it was pretty ugly for Yale. Not the defensive effort level I’ve come to expect from Jones-coached teams. This was the kind of matchup where the Eli had to understand the assignment of playing a more athletic team with talented guards who can shoot from outside, and they looked like they were just hoping open shots would be missed. Defensive rebounding was not up to standard either.
