I knew there were some talks, and that both Berube and Moore were in conversations but weew, that was unexpected
Pulling a Carmody. Hopefully, with better results.
She will be missed. But I did not think we c Ould replace Banghart.
Next woman up!
Addie Micir or Annie Tarakchian or Lauren Gosselin?
Good luck to Carla, who leaves behind a loaded team that should do very well next year. I want to believe that this will be more like when Pete retired and left an incredible group of players for Carmody to mold into one of the greatest Ivy teams of all time.
Carmody was a fantastic coach but when he left the wheels were going wobbly— Chris Young signed with MLB and wasn’t allowed to continue hoops and … ahem Spencer Gloger transferred out after a brilliant freshman season. Tiger team that won 20+ games for five straight years won only 16 each of the next three.
Enormous loss for the women’s program.
If they promote LB (LG) to head coach, they’ll need a coach who can focus on teaching post players.
Bella?
I missed on that one. Hate to lose such a reliably good coach. I trust she won’t poach any Tigers.
Wonder what this will do to the recruiting class?
What does this portend for her rival Griffith? Does she feel the need to keep up?
I think the biggest concern right now is do any of the incoming recruits either this year or next year decommit. Next Fall’s freshman class is supposedly very strong with a couple of good ones lined up for the following year.
FWIW, I vote for Lauren Gosselin to be the next coach. The question is, does she go with Carla to Northwestern?
Good luck to Berube! Successful wherever she goes. Hope she can turn things around quickly at Northwestern.
I missed on it too (of course, money talks, nobody walks). It’s quite an abrupt 180 degree change of direction for her to go from two winning programs to a losing program like Northwestern. According to their schedule, they won their first 6 games against some pretty weak opponents, then finished the season 2-21 when they played mostly Big 10 opponents. The only two wins were against Rutgers and Wisconsin. However, a quick skim of scores shows that some losses were reasonably close; maybe she thinks if the team buys into the “get stops” mantra, they will prevail in some close games and she will steer a quick turnaround. I wish her luck.
I see that one of her rival mid-major coaches is also leaving – Tammi Reiss says goodbye to URI and heads to Florida to take over a mediocre SEC program.

Berube was such an excellent hire that I never doubted she would succeed. This time, I wonder if we can do as well.
I would love to have been in the room for Berube’s exit interview.
The irony of all of this is that Chris Collins, in his final press conference of the season, was begging the NU administration to go out and get the best (in terms of supporting his team) the way it does with other aspects of the university.
Four people with knowledge of Northwestern’s search told USA TODAY Sports the Wildcats were offering a head coaching salary of about $800,000 and told candidates there would be about $1 million in revenue-sharing resources available for roster construction.
Northwestern women’s basketball hires Princeton coach Carla Berube
Does anyone know how the $1,000,000 roster-construction amount compares to other Power 4 schools? On the salary side, sure seems like a significant salary increase for Coach Berube.
A move that would mirror the hiring of Berube in 2019: Meg Barber, head coach of NYU. They just had a 91-game winning streak snapped.
Princeton might double her current salary, so if Barber would ever leaver her Alma mater, this is the move.
A few points:
- I’m not sure why she left. To me, it seems like not only a lateral move but a downward move. I know that’s the big 10, but Princeton’s a flat out better program and a better team year in year out. I’m not saying she won’t be able to win at northwestern, but it’s probably easier to win at princeton. Sure , I understand there’s a ceiling at Princeton in terms of women’s basketball but it’s not like she’s moving to North Carolina. This is a mediocre big ten program.
- You may say that she moved because of the salary and she more than doubled her salary or at least doubled her salary. My thought on that was that I would imagine that columbia’s coach megan griffith makes in the ballpark of 800k. I have no inside information, but that’s my impression. If that’s the case, why wouldn’t princeton be able to give a somewhat competitive $$ offer?
- Unrelated, i’m not particularly bullish on princeton’s WBB prospects next season. I know you can say they have 4 all ivy players coming back. I would say they lost their best player and they have no great players coming back and they have very little depth, and now they don’t have their coach and their system. To my eyes, they’re not as good as Columbia, not as good as Harvard, and i’m not even sure they’re as good as this year’s Brown team, athough those teams are also losing some talent. I think it will be the worst princeton team in a decade if they can’t find talent and develop their bench. I think there gotta make the ILT, but not compete for the top spot. Time will tell. I see columbia and harvard destroying opponents in the WBIT and that’s shaping this impression.
