Close call versus Penn WBB

Tigers gradualy frittered away a 13 point lead after 1Q and trailed by 5 with about 5 minutes to play before finally regaining the lead with a couple minutes to go. Lots of empty possessions and spotty foul shooting at the end. I wouldn’t crown them presumptive ivy champs yet.

Princeton was super passive on offensive, strangely so. They looked a bit woozy from the holiday break and I’d expect their next meeting to be much different.

Tigers under Berube know how to close the sale. Penn played well at home against probably most intense rival. Chea has already produced under the gun but not yesterday. Was not on floor 14 minutes incl most of final quarter, shooting 1-10 from field. Nevertheless the Tigers showed why they are overwhelming favorites to prevail in the league. Tigers are excellent through first 6 players while Charles continues to improve. Not likely that any one player will stand out enough to attract POY support. Gayle is early front runner for that award.

Although yesterday was not a dominant performance, Princeton was in control most of the game and played with grit and poise down the stretch. It is a fun team to watch with every starter capable of taking over a game.

Toothless - I believe Madison St. Rose will be a strong contender for POY; she does so much for this Tiger team, game in and game out. Having so many offensive weapons in their top seven players means that Maddy will have fewer games where she is the team’s top scorer. But over the course of the Ivy season she will distinguish herself as the best player in the league IMHO.

No argument from me. I love St. Rose as a top notch scorer. If she is POY I will be thrilled for her, her team and the staff. Tall does a lot at both ends, on r the boards and as a 3 level scorer. Belker is simply solid all the time. If Hutcherson is not POW there should be an investigation!!

Well, Columbia got off on the wrong foot yesterday, losing to Cornell at Levien, 67-60. Certainly not the way Megan Griffith drew it up. On a day when she was honored pre-game for reaching 1,000 career points, Riley Weiss (also a potential POY candidate) scored only 5 points on 1-for-14 shooting, including 1-of-9 from deep. Oof, face plant.

This Tiger team is very good, but they seem to be more susceptible to stretches of lack of focus, lethargy, bad decisions, etc., than Carla’s teams with players like Alarie, Littlefield, Stone, Cunningham, Mitchell and Chen, who always seemed to be focused and in control. I have been to two games so far (George Mason and Penn) and have noticed Carla losing her temper more easily. I think she may have to ride herd on these players harder and more often than with previous teams in order to get the maximum effort out of them.

It’ll be no surprise if the Tigers drop out of the Top 25 this week. Having to rally to get by Penn, coupled with Stanford winning at UNC will probably do the trick.

Actually went up a spot to 24.

Just saw that. I’m surprised to say the least.
