Whats the scouting report against WV? How do we match up? Game plan?

I just saw one of their players is a finalist for top defender in the country.

Last year they pressed princeton out of the gym.

Imagine you are playing vs Harvard but the players are slightly better, except Turner is better than Quinerly. I think is the best way to put it.

Quinerly is outstanding… she will likely get selected in the WNBA draft this year.

ESPN has West Virginia as an 84% favorite.

Some keys to the game for the Lions. A lot has to go right for them to keep this game close (obv):

  • Limit turnovers and easy fast break points by WV. Quinerly is lightning quick… she averaged 3 steals in a very tough/deep conference.
  • Keep Quinerly from penetrating the lane and dishing to teammates for easy buckets.
  • Offensive rebounds… WV has 3 starters under 5’10", so the Lions should be able to score some put backs if their outside shot isn’t falling.
  • Ride the hot hand from Riley from deep.
  • Get 4+ threes from others (Kitty, CeCe, Broom or Avlijas).

Quinerly is really good, my point is Turner is more determinant and overall better. They will both get drafted probably. I also think that Cece posting their guards might be a very powerful weapon for us today. She needs to step up, her lasts games have not been particularly good

We will be really dependent on the shots falling form the start. If we set the tone and we get confident, we can outscore them

Why aren’t we using Avlijas to get the ball at half court?

11 first half turnovers for the Lions… not good.

And Kitty with 3 fouls… perfect start for WV.

These announcers are cracking me up… “This is like the school bully taking lunch money”.

46-29 WV at the half.

What happened to the Columbia support? They had a large crowd behind the bench for the Washington game, and less than 15 fans for this one!?!

Immense respect for Columbia. Playing hard as hell down to the last few seconds. Great team.

We showed up in the second second half but it was too late. Congrats to WVU, they are really tough to play. This was a good lesson for the future. Congrats to the team for the historic season and for making us dream.

Those seats behind the bench were taken by UNC fans, most of whom didn’t show up until their game was about to start. There were at least as many Columbia fans there as at Thursday’s game, but the families and insiders were across the court, and us regular fans had to sit up higher.

Thanks for the clarification… sucks that they didn’t let the Columbia fans fill up the unused seats behind the bench. Not that it would have made a difference in the result of the game, but the perception (for those of us watching at home, including potential recruits) is that Columbia fans don’t travel to support the team.

On one inbound pass midway thru the game, Columbia got a 5 second call after a WV bucket… on the TV screen you could see the Columbia player inbounding the ball, THREE West Virginia players pressuring the pass and NO Columbia players in sight. Later in the game, Griffith used Rafiu to help break the full court press… she’s very capable, and has been used in that role before, so not sure why Griffith didn’t employ that the entire game.

Columbia fans had to sit on other side of gym, bleacher section.
