The official SJU news release does not use the term “interim” to describe Steve Donahue. Jon Rothstein is reporting that Steve is the “permanent” head coach, having been given a “multi-year contract.”
Big YIKES for St. Joes fan. Coach Donahue as an assistant is additive, as a head coach, good luck in recruiting.
Recruiting predominantly falls on the assistant coaches and hopefully SD can keep the two he has now as they have been good recruiters for St Joe.
The test will be retaining the existing talent from the Portal. The coaching change came too late to affect the current year (albeit St Joe’s already had lost its best player), but how they do this year and the atmosphere around the team will determine whether there is a mass exodus after this season. Mid-majors in general are screwed.
