Exhibition vs. UMass

Let’s start with the good:

  • Jenkins (8 pts, 3 rebs, 7 asts, 2 stls) and Uchidiuno (16 pts, 6 rebs, 2 asts) looked good in the backcourt

  • Dabo (13 pts, 8 rebs, 1 blk, 2 stls) was a beast on the offensive glass and apparently had an impressive poster late in the second half

  • The team shot 40% from beyond the arc, even with Lesburt in street clothes

- This game doesn’t count

The bad was pretty much everything else, including allowing 59 points in the second half, turning the ball over on ~22% of possessions, going 9 for 21 from the charity stripe, and Landon Lewis leaving the game in the second half with an ankle injury (hopefully just a precaution, but never good to see regardless).

Plenty for Mike and co. to work on in the three weeks leading up to the season opener against Siena.

Your glass seems half-full, ET. U Mass is big and talented. I thought MW-J and DeGraaf showed significant improvement, as did Dabo and JJ. The two Frosh, Laughlin and Langham, looked ready to contribute, as well. Lewis’ ankle injury looked serious, hope not, we need him.

I prefer your account of the game to mine, OB. I only had the live stats to go off of, so I’m probably a little more fixated on the numbers and the result than I should be.

I liked Mike’s quote in the ProJo this morning, in which he said that Loughlin could shoot even better than he did yesterday. Given that he shot a solid 3 for 7 from deep yesterday, I’m pretty excited if Mike thinks he can shoot better than that.
