Game Thread: Duquesne

Game will be “televised” via https://jerseyjam.net/ (I’m guessing it’ll be a YouTube livestream).

Let’s see if the Iona game lit a fire under them or if it’s a sign of bigger trouble.

Here’s the YouTube stream for the game:

Really sloppy start. Again. Luckily, Duquesne isn’t lighting up either.

Also, the arena is pretty empty. Eek.

Love what Abdullahi brings. He was always going to be important, but losing Austin makes him crucial in my mind

CJ Happy has a sturdier frame than I expected.

Wild game!

Duquesne leads 28-25 (ignore the ESPN scoreboard).

Good defensive energy from both teams - refs are letting them play.

Lee is off today and bench guys like Hicke, Byriel, Stanton aren’t ready for primetime. Love what Abdullahi and Huggins give us inside though. Nice to have some rim protection and dunkers.

Let’s see if we can get some easier buckets in the second half.

Not exactly a dominating or artistic performance by the Tigers. I miss the days of flowing movement and passing to cutters.

Credit Duquesne defense.

Make or miss, I didn’t expect the offense to look so rusty and disorganized. Not having Austin or Scott available is a bummer.

Might have to steal another game with individual brilliance from Lee, Pierce or Davis.

Duquesne not allowing Lee to score at the rim, and making Pierce work for everything.

Missing everything at the rim so far.

And Lee 2-6 from the line. He’s not making them pay for their constant reaching and bumping.

First alley-oop of the season for Malik! Still down 7, but I love that we have a guy who can do that.

Abdullahi was a highlight reel in high school with his putback dunks and alley-oops.

Really struggling with defensive rebounding and FT shooting, two strengths in previous seasons. Helps when the treys go in, though.

Lee blocked twice tonight. He’d be better off shooting jumpers.

Down 1 with 3:48 left. Let’s see if we can steal this one too.

Davis hit what should have been a dagger 3, but our horrific FT shooting is keeping Duquesne alive.

Davis is kind of an assassin. Even those last free throws he hit he looked unflappable.

WE ESCAPE ONCE AGAIN.

75-68. Another frustrating but gritty effort.

Much better defensively today, but the offense is still a work in progress. Basically: hang around until Lee/Pierce/Davis can iso a big bucket or two.

And our FT shooting is atrocious. It’s one thing for Huggins or Abdullahi to miss from the line. But Lee and Pierce went 5-13 tonight… huh?

Between his dagger 3 and calm FTs, Davis clearly has that clutch gene. When Xaivian heads to the NBA next year, I’m confident Davis can be an POY-caliber guy.
