Game Thread: Merrimack

Let’s see if there’s a post-loss hangover today. Hopefully, Friday’s disappointment lit a fire under the team.

Per Eric von Zipper (who is avoiding this site).

Opens Princeton -4 1/2 O/U 136 1/2

After Monitoring the situation the sharpies have pushed the line to -6/6 1/2

Quick start for the Tigers 8-2. Malik is putting on a show with 6 of the team’s first 8 points.

Xaivian with a nice cut on an out of bounds play but misses a point blank, uncontested shot.

Huggins in for Malik and the Tigers completely lose their flow. Merrimack with 9 straight to take the lead 11-8.

Another sloppy, disorganized start. So many bad TOs, missed loose balls, missed layups.

This team is in trouble.

They looked great until Mitch subbed in Huggins and Hicke.

Every bench player except Peters is a total mess, making rookie mistakes every other possession.

Huggins gets his hands on a lot of loose balls but doesn’t end up with the ball. And he’s a complete nonentity in the offense.

Tigers look rattled. Warriors’ shooting now unconsciously. Down 8. Uggh

Long stretch with Cade and Xaivian on the bench and the Tigers now down 11. I don’t know what Mitch is doing today.

This is embarrassing. We’re getting destroyed and making middle-school mistakes.

Peters called for a timeout as a pass was in the air - turnover #6 already.

Put the damn starters back in and let them play.

24-7 run for Merrimack. We’ll be lucky to lose by <15.

Malik scores with ease every time he touches the ballI and Mitch takes him out. I guess I don’t understand basketball

Way too much overthinking on offense. Instead of confidently shooting open shots, guys make terrible telegraphed passes for amateurish TOs.

A little run makes the game close-ish for now. But I’m so disappointed in this team. MH teams are mentally soft - that’s the one big weakness of his coaching.

If they are not completely gassed from Friday, I think the Tigers’ 1-3-1 and full court pressure would work against these guys. Mitch doesn’t seem to like to try those until the second half of games though

Merrimack tried the 1-3-1 on us with mixed results.

Nice run by the Tigers pulls to within 4

Now that they’re playing harder and less hesitantly they look like the REAL Princeton Tigers.

To quote Brian Earl: “They aren’t playing hard enough.” This team is in its head after the preseason hype.
