Cornell beats Dartmouth 87-71 to advance. The Big Red will play Yale for a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
Toughest matchup for all the marbles. Cornell looks to make it to the dance for the first time in 15 years, whereas Yale seeks a second straight berth. I think it will be a difficult game, as Cornell has been on fire as of late.
This one will require all hands on deck. Yale did a good job of defending a five-out offense today, but the shot-making needs to be better tomorrow. Missed threes create transition opportunities for Cornell.
More tread on the tires for the Bulldogs as the big 3 went 35+ minutes today. Cornell is less âpress-yâ than last year but still could be an issue.
also it is very hard to envision outscoring cornell right now.
we essentially did that the first 2x.
okereke is a load and they surround him with shooters. they seem to have no fear
we have gotten pretty fortunate in our last 2 ILT games and have looked quite tight. this will take a better effort imo and perhaps a cornell cool off . hard to need both to feel good
I think youâre being too pessimistic here. Agree that we beat Cornell by outscoring them before (including an insane JP performance) but we can defend them a lot better than Dartmouth can. Okereke is a load to be sure, but heâs guardable. Cornell doesnât have much interior defense either, and theyâre going to struggle to guard Bez as they have before. Cornell got a huge outlier shooting performance in JLA from Okereke and Fiegen and was lucky to be that close.
The Princeton game was a rock fight - tough defense by both teams and plenty of body contact. I expect a faster pace from Cornell, with less defensive intensity. If Yale plays defense like today against the Tigers, I expect good things.
princeton is abt as athletic as my jv squad and they all but got us tho they did cheat the shot clockđ i dont know how you cant focus on that
kudos ro JJ .he sort of did in his presser
i have never seem this before at any level of hoops !!!
last year mitch cried a river abt the 1 seed not getting adv. also watch mitchs interaction with the ref -hes like we get 2.5 secs??? smiles
(also watch poula and mitch in the handshake line. classicâdeep hate)
sorry i was watching the tape bc i just havent seen it before and i have lived this game for 50 years
JJ just grinds it out.BUT
cornell has horses man. ya better bring it and make shots. different deal.
samson you made 2 great plays today but you gotta finish arnd the rim better under pressure and be a release valve for the relentless double. on your boy
simmons keep it up. lets go
celiscar its time to slip and finish. you have to step up. stop shooting the broke 3 ball
glue wins. need it. bring it. cornell is hot man and much better horses imo . night and day to what we saw today
yall arent focused in the reversion in our shooting metrics.
the double is more strategic and careful --our narrow shooting quality reinforced as bez is struggling from deep.
simmons shot is still funky and he is blowing open looks.
celiscar cant shoot yet
townsend cant breathe but he doesnt have the ability to create his own 3.
mullin is starting to show signs of emerging here.
poula is hitting and shooting the most redic attempts i have ever seen. he hit a gw going right as a left hander w ridic d from a kid who used to play on his aau team and knows him like the back of his hand
but as we have seen over the month he is human and never open. just creating
i forecatsted this in early feb. it took awhile to manifest but it has-d scheme+ mean reversion and shooting warts
this all comes to a head with a hot cornell team we cldnt slow down 2x but outscored.
i am not an optimist. princetons d scheme and marginal athletes still exposed us under pressure.
as brown did last year . 2 4 leaf clovers in a row
Cornellâs half-court offense is a thing of beauty and is definitely, as James said, the best at doing backdoor cuts that Iâve seen in the league in years. And of course they can hit threes. ButâŚI think Yaleâs rim protection should allow their D to apply ball pressure, and they are pretty long and athletic out there. And Cornell isnât that physical on defense, although I was impressed by some of the shot blocking they displayed against Dartmouth.
Fine to have a healthy respect for a potent, hot Cornell team. But I wouldnât get carried away.
the shot clock horn blew bf the shot clock went to 0. then the game clock said under 4 when they blew the violation.
they didnt catch the horn mismatch. and then reviewed it and added 2.5 secs to account for the flaw in timing by correcting for the whole possesion only after it expired.
so yale got a premature horn. a too short shot clock but then princeton got rewarded for it 2x once by virtue of a premature whistle and no shot and 2. for 2.5 secs added
i had to rewatch. this isnt the ymca guys. i have never seen this at any level. what a joke
cornell will likely kick our *ss tommorrow but if you lose that game it would be the talk of the townđł
princeton carved us up on the backdoor at times but i can live with it. i thought decent outside shooting not good wins that game if we limit princeton from deep
we cant shoot so it was a coin toss and princeton d scheme was good and cornell can do it
the difference is cornell has 5 guys who can hurt you really inside and out.
their pg and say cooper noard score in the post. a lot. they all do. and they can all shoot the 3 ball
so that makes the backdoor lethal. great scheme and terrifying if you cant match it
samson will be the only kid in the game who texas and houston wanted. simmons was also a legit recruit. celiscar is a beast. none of them can shoot tho
and okereke and the pg and maybe 2 others are legit athletes at any level
the only surprise is why cornell ever went cold this year. i just watched the dartmouth game and deeply concerned
bc they can post you cant switch the ball screen like yale did on lee.
i mean townsend guarded lee how many times 1x1đł
the game within the game is how you play this. i think you dont switch and hard edge but this is where the roller gets lost backdoor and at the least has easy access post position.
celiscar was awful guarding this against princeton for ex to the point where i dunno what the d play call was for himđ
Easy to forget weâve scored 93 and 102 on cornell. Great matchup for Bez. No other team in the league has a point guard who can exploit Cornellâs horrendous transition defense by rebounding and going.
Yup. We shot 60% from 2 in the second game. Plus Cornell doesnât have the bodies down low to play the double-and-foul game like Princeton does â losing Ragland ruins their spacing because heâs their only big who can shoot.
