Ivy Madness Changes

Dartmouth has agreed to not host and it will be held at The Palestra next year to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the great building. I do NOT see Dartmouth hosting after unless it wins the League, because that makes no sense. Hopefully, regular season winner hosts in 2028 and after.

I see the Inquirer is reporting this, so it must be so.
Penn may win the League next year, which would somewhat
moot the fairness point, but Penn will have hosted three times
when no one else has hosted twice. Not sure an “anniversary”
should drive this decision.

The rotation is over. That’s the one thing that is certain. Might be neutral site, might be winner, but it will be one or the other. This was a trade from Dartmouth to Penn of the rights to the tournament this year. I have heard, but have no firsthand knowledge, that money was involved.

Wouldn’t a constant neutral site therefore be….Dartmouth?

Wow, gladly surprised. I might reconsider my plan to not travel for the Ivy tournament next season

The good news just keeps on coming out of West Philly!!

It is not exactly fair but it is clearly the best arena among the 8. Guessing ESPN prefers it too.

I would be fine going with regular season champions hosting in the future. Logistics might be trickier but a reward for winning the regular season is deserved in a 1-bid league where attendance dollars are not that great. It would mean different sites for the men and women but that really should not be much of an issue. Ties can be resolved with the team not hosting it the longest getting the ILT that year.

So what about Jadwin? Where is fairness, inclusion? All those things.

Jadwin gets first dibs when it hits 100. That sounds fair to me.

Why the hell would Dartmouth agree to this?

It should be awarded to the reg season champs.

Funny!

They were bought out by Penn. The color of Dartmouth is green.

This is a one year deal and it will never, nor should it, go to Hanover. I am confident that the regular season winner will host after. No neutral site is happening.

The argument against a neutral site was, I believe, that the League
would not pay. Now, we are hearing money is changing hands to
have a non-neutral site. The League needs more thoughtful leadership.
I really doubt ESPN cares about the Palestra’s “anniversary.”

ESPN loves hyping storylines. They will hype this.

If you read Jonathan Tannenwald’s article in today’s Philly Inquirer, Robin Harris sure is speaking about the desirability of a neutral site tournament after this year.

Hopefully, Princeton will be in the Tournament next year and you can bring your full anger to the Palestra just as Princeton fans did in olden times. Just no marshmallows and soda.

I will be happy to do that. Always enjoyed the Palestra, but the idea that
HCA is for sale does offend me.

You didn’t seem to mind when Spencer was for hire.
