Apologies for a post that is only tangentially related to Ivy Hoops but I wanted to pass along this article from the Prince on WPRB that features Jon Solomon, the muse of Princeton basketball. As a WPRB alum and fanboy of Jon’s, this was a lot of fun to read!
I certainly miss his Princeton blog.
I miss it too. I used to enjoy the back and forth with Penn fans who were always lurking. Jon suspended me from posting briefly when i said some really nasty things about the quakers.
When he folded the site he directed me to IvyHoopsOnline.
this Forum is starting to remind me of Jon’s–a Princeton oasis.
My favorite PRB memory is when my son portrayed the Jersey Devil in an extended interview with a student DJ that ran during breaks in a set of wonderfully odd tunes. My son’s bit featured an over-the-top South Jersey accent, extended take on pork roll sandwiches, and shout out to Hoagie Haven during a full-throated endorsement of Central Jersey as a “thing” that prompted debate on PRB’s chat feature. You don’t get entertainment like that every day.
I still mourn the loss of Jon’s PrincetonBasketball.com! For those who didn’t know the site, you can still access it here: https://www.princetonbasketball.com/. Jon was a fantastic chronicler of the team before the Basketball U Ivy message board and long before we had ESPN+ to keep us connected.
I’ll echo all of the above. Jon was my first inside source for news about Princeton basketball. I felt like I had lost a friend and fellow fan after he closed down his site.
Yeah, I loved that site. It was a great watering hole.
