Justin Simon

Simon is a finalist for the Middlebury job. A decision should be finalized in the next week or so.

Looks like a good spot for him.
Surprised Columbia did not interview him

Columbia wanted someone in the Kyle Smith tree…and they did well in what they got.

I agree he looks like a solid hire, but there is nothing wrong with the Jones “tree.”

Jones tree has never gotten the chance to grow, weirdly enough.

They hired Matt Goldsmith, former HC at The College of NJ. Also played and coached at Amherst.

jones tree is currently at u new haven (going d 1?) and kent state as head coaches with former jones player, cavaco at oberlin.

anothony goins (bc?) and matt elkin (columbia)also have been rising up the ranks

i spoke to one current yale asst in depth abt his plans a few yrs back. he was torn which path to take for his future. perhaps this clarifies it

strangely dick kuchens tree with steve pikiell, joe reilly, greg herenda etc maybe more impressive so far which is confusing given the yale track records and coaching durations

goins now at uga. i shldve known that. haha

he is on a heater

Odd that Goins (unpaid third assistant role for Yale for 2(?) years) and Elkin (Dobo for a few seasons) are making their way up while Simon and Kingsley have been there for a decade with no moves up. Might speak to the quality of life of coaching at Yale under Jones.

goins was a world class recruiter as was the guy at BU now.

goins got bruner who clemson was all over early and many others

the bu guy got samson who everyone in tx went after at same time

elkin is still early days…but so far so good

who was the most successful from amaker tree?
will wade.

that’s the common thread as to who moves up but in some doing you have to leave the bird in the hand and shake the bushes.

lastly to climb the ladder you have to move. kingsleys daughter is at yale now and simon is obv an alum.

they also are different than a goins or a wade or the BU asst…who as you note were unpaid

must be a great recruiter and must take risk

to validate the importance of being an elite recruiter esp when an unpaid 4th asst…see who hired goins first (if i can recall without AI), brad brownell at clemson
