Congratulations to Kaitlyn. Has any other Ivy player played (and started) for a men’s or women’s NCAA Basketball Champion? Have any Ivy coaches been a coach or assistant coach on an NCAA Champion team?
Tommy Amaker played and started for Duke his junior year when they lost to Louisville in the 1986 NCAA final. The Dartmouth men made the NCAA finals in 1942 and 1944 but didn’t win either final. Are there other coaches or players who made it to the finals?
I can’t think of an NCAA champion, but Satch Sanders won 8
NBA titles as a player before coaching Harvard.
Very happy for Chen. She plays with such joy.
Congrats both to UConn and Chen. It’s been an amazing Championship and year for them.
By the way, funny note. UConn has lost a total of 4 games this season: 3 official games against Notre Dame, USC and Tennessee, and a scrimmage back in October against Columbia. Geno just mentioned that after loosing that scrimmage, he though they were not even going to make it to the tournament.
Congrats to Kaitlyn… been a fan of hers since she torched Columbia for 57 points within a three week span late in the season her Freshman year in 2022, including 30 points in the Ivy championship.
Indeed… I got a chuckle when 2 of the 3 ESPN studio hosts picked South Carolina to win… was thinking, have you not seen what UConn is doing to everyone? And while South Carolina is/was very good, this team was not nearly as strong as their teams from the past.
Here’s a video of Kaitlyn celebrating with her former Princeton teammates.
I was not one of the lucky 5, so I have no idea.
I also like how this was a warning of what Riley’s season was going to look like before everyone knew.
