Kaitlyn was signed by the Golden State Valkyries about a week ago and played in her first WNBA game Sunday night against the Connecticut Sun. She played 21 minutes, scored 5 points and was +15.
Thanks. I had heard she was cut initially, but apparantly was re-signed when several players left the Valkyries to play FIBA in Europe. And another article mentioned she is dating a guy named Caden. Caden Shapiro that is.
The Valkyries have waived Julie Vanloo, a point guard who had gone to Europe to play but was ready to come back, and guard Bree Hall, a rookie from South Carolina who was picked #20 in the second round of the 2025 WNBA Draft. They have trimmed their roster to 12 players, and Kaitlyn is still on it.
Looks like her hustle, good defense, court vision and general attitude have persuaded the Valkyries to keep her around for a while. Good for her.
Lots of PU connections there (Shapiro family).
Based on your little clue, I did some research. So Caden was a baseball player at Princeton, a rather good one. His father Mark played football at Princeton and is president of Toronto Blue Jays. Grandfather was Ron Shapiro, a prominent Baltimorean back in the day.
Ron Shapiro (sha-pye-ro) was the precursor to Scott Boras, without the abrasion. Don’t know how active he still is, but he taught many aspiring sports agents the usefulness of a law degree. I saw some of his presentations.
He was well known in Baltimore as Cal RIpken’s agent. “The Power of Nice”, his magnum opus, may not have been Scott Boras’ bible .
