According to Verbal Commits, Brown has made a portal offer to UMASS Lowell freshman Martin Somerville. America East ROY, 13.6 pts, 3.6 assists, 40% three, 82% FT. I imagine he will get other offers, but seems hopeful. Looks like Brown offered him previously. Anyone know anything about Somerville or the circumstances?
Actually, as I click on all his offers from last year, it looks like VC has simply refreshed all
his prior offers as if they are new offers. Don’t know that Brown has made a new offer.
I would be a little surprised if Brown were in for Somerville, only because his agent is Daniel Poneman, one of the bigger names in the NIL industry, and I just don’t think we have the kind of NIL capacities to be in contention for him if teams like Providence, who are rumored to be taking a look at him, end up offering. He did take an official visit with us during his initial recruitment, so I suppose the staff could still have a good connection with him.
Of the guys to hit the portal thus far, the one who caught my eye was Will Batchelder, a transfer from Holy Cross. He left the team prior to the start of the season, but in two seasons he shot 38% from beyond the arc. We offered him during his initial recruitment and he’s from Massachusetts, so he would still be in his backyard, if that’s meaningful to him.
Yes, he no doubt will have better offers than he did a year ago. Martin has worked the portal before (even if Dar didn’t pan out) so I imagine he will try to be active.
