Strange that the press release on Townsend, a deserving POY, says:
He led Yale to a successful defense of their Ivy League championship, setting career highs across the board with averages of 16.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game, while shooting 51% from the field and a league-best 48% from three-point range.
TJ Power actually had the league-best 3 point shooting percentage at .477. Townsend isn’t even among the top 17 players listed among the leaders here.
That was his full season average from 3. In conference it was 43.9%. In fact all of these numbers are full season. His conference scoring was 15.8
I mentioned this in the Ivy League board (where this thread should have gone), but why highlight all of the full season stats if the criteria for these awards is based on Ivy-only games? Let alone saying that it’s “league leading” which is a bunch of malarkey.
Noland was my pre-season pick for POY. I thought Columbia would get 8 or 9 wins. I must’ve been feeling optimistic that day.
I watched Columbia early on and thought they would be a serious force in the league this year.
Losing Bedri really hurt. Would have been an effective interior scorer and compliment to Noland.
