Monmouth

Lee with a monster stat-stuffing game: 23p/6r/6a/3s/1b.

If Pierce continues to struggle, Lee needs to take over earlier. Caden is in his own head every game now - I can hear the gears grinding in his head every time he has the ball in the low post.

Painful game. I hope Pierce learns to feel the double and kick. Lee is much improved in that regard.

I feel like Lee has been constantly driving into 2 defenders without a plan… but he only had 2 TOs in 37 minutes tonight. Whatever mistakes he makes, I can’t really knock him - he gets the job done when no one else on this team can.

That late pass to Peters for his last 3 was a beauty. Drew 3 defenders and threw it over the top to Blake who had nobody in the county near him.

But Caden… I don’t know what’s up with him. During the Furman game, it was mentioned that NBA scouts are looking at him too. Maybe the pressure is getting in his head. Trying to do too much. Xaivian is the opposite - the more scouts in attendance, the better he seems to do.

Not the kind of game we want to see at this point in the season. Seems like, among other things, too often the offense consists of 4 guys standing in corners waiting for Lee to do something, and opposing teams know to expect it. On the other hand, maybe they were looking past this game to Rutgers, and I can see the team putting up a strong effort Friday.

Winning ugly is better than the alternative.
I agree that the 1-3-1 might have helped generate
some easy baskets and momentum. We could not get
anything inside. Pierce made some bad decisions,
but I think he was looking for cutters, and everyone
was standing at the 3 point line.
Interesting that Stanton got no time in a game where
we needed offense. Seals seems ahead of him and
Hicke right now. I wonder when Scott comes back.
I did not see anything on his thumb.

Wow, Brown beat a very good Rhode Island team tonight - they’re finding themselves after a rough start.

That’s what I wish our guys were doing - making steady progress instead of being all over the place game to game. Pierce started off the season looking great - then fell off a cliff.

Right now, we look like a 9-5 2nd/3rd place Ivy team.

Just win baby but ooooof that was an ugly game. The worst of it was the Tigers complete inability to play defense in the second half. How many times in a row did the Tigers foul Monmouth (and how many freaking FTs did Monmouth make in a row?!) I fear that something isn’t right with Cade. The stumbling backwards travelling he’s done several games in a row now, freezing with the ball and getting it stolen, missing shots around the hoop, not getting the ball out to open shooters, etc. 6 points and 4 turnovers? yikes. Xaivian bailed the team out with shot after shot at the end and Blake hit some big ones too but there wasn’t mush else happening on offense. Gokinsman seems to be rubbing off on me. Sure hope this was just exam time struggles.

Cornell is up 18 over Cal at the half.

I know I can be a Debbie Downer, but it’s just that NIL, transfer roulette and Lee’s NBA prospects have turned this season into the program’s last, best chance for glory for a very long time. If this team isn’t a 20+ win Ivy champ and March Cinderella, why would Pierce/Davis/Abdullahi/etc. stick around?

I may have missed earlier discussion of this, but isn’t the probable cause of Pierce’s decline an unreported nagging iinjury. Has Henderson had to answer that direct question ?
