Navy

Ladies and gentlemen, we’re back.

Yale starts the season off with a trip to Maryland. The Mids aren’t usually very frightening, but they started their season off by blasting Presbyterian off the map on the road, so who knows?

Navy is the consensus favorite to win the Patriot League and ranked in KenPom above every Ivy team other than Yale, so Yale shouldn’t take the Middies lightly.

imho-

navy relies on solid pg and center play. i am hopeful as to how we match the latter but the former is certainly one of our pressure points of uncertainty.

also this is a nice event and on the road. they will be fired up.i still have bruises from playing service academies in my day. must match the physicality without fouling.

lastly and big picture yale has typically been underestimated preseason even during the golden era the last 10 yrs. this is not the case on this website or others.

this is concerning given we are replacing two of the best yale players ever and at key positions. yes i am positive on our roster but will likely be a process at best.

wasnt princeton the unanimous pick last year, etc?

Delayed tip until 9.

Rhody looks incredibly undisciplined. Tons of silly fouls and sloppy play. The losses to them each of the past two years were some of the most frustrating Yale games in recent memory, so hopefully home court helps get them over the hump.

we cant shoot or rebound so far

Hello everyone happy we’re back!

Don’t know if non-conference games count for Ivy MVP shouts but Nick is playing like a stud per usual. Very impressed with Mullins ball-handling minutes despite shots not falling and Celiscar playing well on defense.

think Devon should be limited with ball handling responsibilities, unfortunately

well…better. ha

they are only guarding the drive and jamming the lane

Don’t feel like we played great and were up 15 at half. Encouraging start for Mullin and Fox to solidly our backcourt.

mullen is impressing so far

the navy pg is crazy quick but mullen has a similar pop on that end

be curious if navy extends to see if simmons and celiscar etc can work the lane. the gp was clearly to fence it off

Good adjustment when Samson went out to take advantage of their slow-footed big guy. The fronting and weak-side doubles seem to be working well so far.

Y’all I’m so impressed by that young man Aletan and his game IQ right now, well played

Yeah, I was worried about the shooting with the new starting 5. Nick and Trevor are the only threats from 3. Making it work so far but I dunno whether it will going forward.

i am also endorsing fox as a certified sniper.

but as for that starting 5 not enough floor stretching imo and you saw it bog down, quick

A drubbing. Samson looked confident early in the 2nd half. We need another ball handler to step up to reach our ceiling but really encouraging first game.

nice preview of daniel at the end.

next up.

fox is exciting.

6’6 and sneaky athletic and strong. in many ways he has poula similarities. what he lacks in step backs and overall perimeter cleverness he makes up for with his ability to get to the rim and finish which keeps man d honest

he has to get better on perimeter d though. he is easy to break down on the dribble drive not due to athleticism but lack of awareness which can be fixed. i think thats the trick with this starting 5

youd like to move him in but jones is going defense (and experience) first right now imo. but you have to find a groove early also or else. of course 1 game doesnt make a trend but still

not sure how complementary simmons and celiscar are at this stage

Fox is an obvious candidate to step into the starting 5 from the bench, but James will probably run the more experienced lineup unless there are glaring problems for now.

otherwise I like the 10 man rotation with bench of fox, jordan brathwaite, first years daniel O. and wallace, and sparing arlington minutes for the time being

Arlington was first guard off bench which was somewhat surprising. Is he ahead of braithwate?

not sure.

he does fine at running pg imo and as a senior maybe is just getting an early look. kid has been injured so much it is hard to know what he can do

i am very high on brathwaite’s ceiling, however, and he can really guard
