Penn I

Penn is one of the best three-point shooting teams in the country. We’re going to have to guard the three point line like we did in the second half against Princeton, and then recover to finish off possessions with rebounds. Offensively, we should have a pretty big quickness advantage across the board, so, given their lack of shot blocking, should be able to drive a lot. The big question is whether Hunt will be healthy enough to play after whatever happened to him at the end of Saturday’s game.

Harvard’s athletic guards should be able to penetrate at will against Penn. We can’t defend and guard play is the biggest team weakness aside from Levine.

Too many easy hoops by Harvard, as I feared.

Crimson probably riding high off their comeback on Saturday. Sorry about that.

It wasn’t a particularly well played game by either squad. We were calling it a rock fight on the basketball u board.

I caught the ending and Harvard almost had their own collapse with the missed Hinton FT and near-3pt shooting foul.

It’s gonna be a wild season.

It was a heady play by Levine with his follow through after he was fouled, but the officials did not appear to even look at a video replay.

Really ugly, but important, win.

We usually only play six or seven deep, so Hunt’s absence—he got hurt at the end of overtime against Princeton—loomed large. Didn’t help that Barbour and Eisendrath were both dealing with foul trouble early in the second half … or that Eisendrath regressed to turning the ball over all the time (and finally got benched for it).

Hinton had a tough shooting game, and almost blew it with the missed front end and foul on Levine. But Batties and Barbour made some big threes and had some even bigger drives to get us across the finish line. Sullivan came in and gave us some great minutes on the boards and the defensive end, together with some nice finishes around the hoop (just need to work on his free throws…)

Neither team played great, but had to get this at home. First time we’ve been two games over .500 in Ivy play since the pandemic. Going to need to play better next week, and hope Hunt can get back.

It was tough on both sides. Zanoni is Penn’s best shooter, period, and he went 0 for 8 including 0 for 5 from 3, and it’s not that he didn’t have open looks.
