Penn-Illinois

Good season Ivies! Time for bed.

It’s a shame Penn couldn’t play with a healthy Power (and Roberts). It was still a great bounce-back season for the program.

Now the Ivies watch the transfer portal and wait. At least Penn gets to have players transfer IN as well as out!

They’ll also have a solid freshman class as well as the most heralded freshman this year, Ryan Altman, who did not play at all due to injury.

Illini cover.

Illini only really had their deep bench guys in for the last 2-3 minutes of the game.

Stop ‘em. Nice season, pal.

Post-game press conferences. Penn begins at approximately 18:30. Great introspective thoughts from the coach.

Wow, that was ugly in the first half and hideous in the second. Power looked like a shell of himself, couldn’t dribble without losing the ball. And the rebounding–yikes. Quakers get conquered by the Warsaw Pact.

Cam made some nice plays all the way to the ugly end, he has stepped up so much with Ethan out and hopefully lands a good spot for a grad year for more courseware in finance and accouting, and progress towards mba or equivalent which he has publically stated. Worked at a REIT last summer.
Super kid

Thank you for posting this. 4 or 5 IVs for Power. Wise words by a coach who truly understands the privilege and responsibility of having the keys to the Palestra, and of the world beyond it.

A truly great turnaround from a program I finally gave up on 2 years ago after 22 years as a season ticket holder. It’s a shame that the team that put it together over the last 10 games of the season wasn’t healthy for the game yesterday. The path was open had Penn had the guys to hit the open 3s, and there were many. Not the right guys taking them. Only question was why didn’t Penn have Michael’s Secret Stuff to give to Power. Well, onto baseball and look forward to next season, when just about everyone will have a brand new team.

“The path was open” in a game in which they were down 40. Just say nice season lol.

If you read only that line, lol. If you read what I wrote, different conclusion. Yes, Penn got thumped, but without their 2 best players and Penn got loads of open 3s which was the way to beat Illinois. It would not surprise me if VCU does what I hoped Penn would do. I never thought there was a good chance to win–just that there was a chance. And there was.

I mean, it was still only a 4 point game with 5 minutes to go in the first half. That exceeded my expectations for this game, especially given Power’s obvious weakened state and our getting absolutely killed on the boards.

Illinois does not shoot well nor does it defend from the outside particularly well. Against Penn, that didn’t matter given the unbelievable advantage on the boards and the fact that Penn did not shoot well. As long as Penn (really Zanoni) was shooting well, Penn stayed in the game.

At least Penn is not the only team Illinois is dominating in this tourney. The only question now is going to be the final score here against VCU.

Good point

VCU managed to keep the margin of loss to 21 points.

Yes, although pretty much the last 10 minutes of the contest the margin was at 20-25 points. In both games, it was extended garbage time.
