Little doubt that coach was given a green light re portal as he is hitting it hard right now and some promises re NIL. Could he bring his son, committed to Butler, as a player? Could be. He would start on day one and with Roberts and Brown, I would put that team no. 2 behind Yale preseason. I do not expect Lee back, one way or the other. I don’t expect any Yale kids to leave. Klatsky is about to take over the job held by Hovde on Golden’s bench, so I’m looking at an Ivy assistant taking over NYU. It’s a good job with a nice new facility.
One of your Yale assistants was second choice to Klatsky at NYU 3 years ago.
The only chance Penn has of getting Fran’s son, Jack, to decommit from Butler and come to Penn is if he hires his older son, Connor, as an assistant on his Penn staff. Connor is currently a Butler assistant and no way his younger son does that if Connor is still on the Butler bench. And the biggest complication with all of this is that older brother Connor is currently dating Caitlin Clark who is entrenched with the Indiana Fever of the WNBA. Now if Fran can pull off a trade to the New York Liberty as part of a package deal, then we’d be cooking!
Penn is trying aggressively to recruit TJ Power, a former five-star recruit who spent the past two seasons at Duke and UVA. Power was a recruiting priority of Fran’s when he was at Iowa.
The first of many. I would expect a much different level of talent in West Philly come November.
I know that the Sixers were angling for a WNBA franchise (at least when they had their own building to fill)—bring Caitlin here and a WNBA franchise is theirs.
Will be curious to see how recruiting goes, but this looks like the exact kind of target Penn should go for from the Portal, so love to see the direction at least. The next key in my mind will be targeting good HS players who aren’t being that heavily recruited because of the portal.
Matt Gatens may follow Fran from Iowa to join the staff as an assistant.
Tristan Spurlock is another name being mentioned around the staff.
Update on Sam: The top choices outside of staying at Penn are Northwestern, Saint Joseph’s, Stanford, Notre Dame, Boston College and Davidson.
He has offers from all of those schools?
Yes.
Good for Sam, he deserves to have options, but hope that Coach McCaffrey can recruit him back to Penn since he seems like a perfect fit for his system.
Ben Luber, a former D1 assistant who is currently the head coach at The George School, will be Fran’s third assistant. The lead assistant will be Tristan Spurlock from Iowa. Best-case scenario is that four-star/top-50 wing recruit Joshua Lewis will come over. Spurlock was the lead recruiter for Lewis.
That would truly be a best case scenario.
Ronald Moore is rounding out the staff.

TJ Power should be visiting campus soon.

Both Sam Brown and Michelangelo Oberti were at the Fran intro presser today in team gear. Sam’s front and center in this shot. Hopefully that’s a sign of a transfer portal withdrawal coming soon…
Happy smile! A positive sign of staying!
