Steve Donahue has won once ever in JLA as Penn’s head coach (2016-2017, the #ZOMBIEQUAKERS season). It’ll be tough for him to get off that particular losing streak this year, I think. Penn has some serious matchup problems with this Yale team.
On Saturday, the students get free Frank Pepe’s pizza, and (I would imagine) the fans will get a better showing out of Lee and Pierce than they did last time these teams played. I think Princeton’s size and athleticism deficit will make it tough for them, but no team with a creator of Xaivian Lee’s caliber is ever truly out of it.
It is now 15, down from 18. Penn has little chance and this should be the Donahue swan song at Penn. The inside track is certainly Dave Klatsky. I’m thinking Saturday will be a much closer game than at Jadwin and am hoping that a large ESPNU audience tunes in. So many people say that so and so is a good Ivy League player, but no one says that so and so is a good MAAC,etc. player. People need to learn about the League, as there is minimal interior promotion. It is the no. 13 rated League.
I’m going to focus on the positives here. That was the first game in a while that Yale faced adversity. The shots weren’t falling, John Poulakidas went cold, and Sam Brown went bananas. Getting beat up on the boards by a Penn team that’s terrible on the boards isn’t good, but winning in spite of all of that is good. Hopefully, this wakes the team up and helps them realize they can’t sleepwalk against any conference team.
Steve’s Penn teams have really had a knack for losing games they ought to win at JLA. I remember 2017 and 2020 specifically being unfortunate (in the latter, AJ Brodeur got blocked by Eric Monroe in the middle of some insane slew of Penn turnovers all in the final two minutes).
as i noted what happens when poula goes cold? its “inevitable”
this team looks scared on offense when that happens.
and it trickles into long ball rebounds etc.
this team shows its vulnerability…i hated sub patterns and the fear i saw
kudos to penn. donahue ran great offensive scheme per usual and spinoso made some nasty finishes over aletan which is hard to do. and those kids were scrappy. they deserved to win but
i made $ bills yall. jinx the jinx! tmrw i am clueless
Happy to keep the undefeated dream alive. Really felt like we got out to a 12-1 lead and decided the game was over and played like it. Fun to see Celiscar be the hero.
Ivy regular season is essentially locked up after Cornell/Princeton losses. Hoping tomorrow is a raucous crowd vs a Princeton team that is reeling.
tmrw night you get a desperate princeton team vs a jinxed up overconfident yale team who is punch drunk and a little pissed but not enough in a loud jla
