Working for…….Joe Scott!!
Can I infer that Jack Scott put in a good word for him?
Makes sense!
Regarding McConnell, maybe there’s another side to the story, but it would have to be a hell of a side.
If Kyle Smith hired him, it must have been somewhat convincing. I mean who would hire a guy who would stab his boss in the back that way?
But I doh’t have a reason to believe the initial rumor in the first place.
The initial rumor seems odd. But something must have happened which warranted the abrupt dismissal of a popular and ostensibly successful assistant.
I imagine there could be some ambiguity in what happened. Whether he could bring a player with him could be something that would get asked in an interview situation, and an answer could have been given that could be noncommittal from his perspective but problematic if Henderson hears about it.
Not really any new information.
The writer seemed unaware that Brennan is Princeton grad and former player. “Assimilate into the culture"?”
Interview with Caden in Prince today. I’m too lazy to post link right now.
As expected, not able to use Jadwin but is working out in the new fitness center.
Still looking for a group with which to practice basketball (what about his plans to work on his three point shot?).
He has heard from about 20 programs and expects to decide by the end of the calendar year.
He was very upset when the two assistant coaches were fired.
He hopes to play in the NBA, but realizes Europe might be his ultimate destination.
You can file the following comment under “get off my lawn” … I am always disheartened when there is rarely a mention of the masters program that they want to pursue when Ivy players are weighing their graduate transfer options.
In the current era of college $port$, I don’t blame Pierce for his decision. But considering he and Xaivian almost left after 2024, it’s clear that the coaching exits had no impact on his choice. If anything, it was the other way around.
With Lee and Pierce leaving, I think Mitch realized that he needs more of a traditional coaching environment. Enter Brennan as associate head coach to crack the whip.
Not that this is really a surprise, but the info about the extent of the ligament injury seems to confirm what we all saw play out on the court. Not a doctor, but I’m surprised he would play at all, considering the risk of causing more severe damage.
Good luck to Caden, I’m glad he wants to get his Princeton degree and it is a shame that stellar recruiting class never was able to fully deliver on its promise.
Some of the pre-season comments I have read from Coach Henderson have been about the current team feeling like more of a “throw-back” Tiger squad. He also has said that he expects to play deeper into the roster and at a faster pace. Kinda sounds like the Cornell style of play that Brian Earl introduced, likely necessitated by the dearth of proven scorers and having to rely on underclassmen.
And no inside game to speak of.
Mitch has really struggled to recruit true centers during his time. Meanwhile, Yale just landed a four-star type center in Tim Winkler (offers from Auburn, Florida, ASU, Nevada). If he’s good, he’ll be gone in 2 seasons. But hey, that’s 1-2 seasons of quality center play.
Since all the focus recently has been on Xavian’s journey at Florida, I decided to check out what I could find about Caden Pierce’s status. Apparently, he is taking his official visit at Gonzaga today (and maybe this weekend, since the Zags play 2 at home: Seattle University tonight (at 9 pm on ESPN+) and Loyola Marymount on Sunday (at 9 pm on ESPN+).
Princeton transfer Caden Pierce visiting Gonzaga - On3
He’s narrowed his list to 5: Duke, Gonzaga, Louisville, Purdue and UConn. I also found a video recorded a couple of weeks ago on the very day he was in Storrs, CT for his UConn official visit. The guys have some interesting takes on Cade:
Caden Pierce Portal Update - Visiting UConn, Considering Five ELITE Programs…
They ultimately end up thinking he’ll go to UConn but seem to think he won’t play much there; it’s just to be on a team with the best shot to win a championship. One guy is not a big fan and focuses on his steep drop off after his sophomore year (the guy doesn’t seem to know about the ankle injury). My uninformed view is that he’ll go either to Purdue (to be nearer home and family) or to Gonzaga, to be reunited with his best friend and high-school teammate, Braden Huff, with whom he won the Illinois State Championship in 2022. Huff red-shirted as a freshman at Gonzaga and will be a senior next year.
It seems an announcement will be coming shortly.
Thanks for the post.
The guys in the video seem to be uniquely uninformed.
