No Abdullahi. Still no Davis (no surprise). Just gonna have to take a ton of Ls in non-conf.
Only 3 more games
Wild guess: Abdullahi has turf toe; just like Caden’s ankle, it would be a question of Grade 1, 2, or 3 for recovery time.
Same old story: hot start to get a comfy lead only to limp into halftime.
2nd half turnover fest coming. Followed by a valiant final run and lose by 2-5 pts.
This team is so hard to watch because the talent is there - just too many injuries and no experience. And you can’t be excited for the future because as soon as they become All-Ivy caliber, they’re leaving the program ASAP for a modest NIL payday.
Jackson Hicke just commits his 4th foul on a 3pt shot after it left the shooter’s hand (and missed).
This team can’t stop shooting itself in the foot in new way every single game. I’m genuinely amazed they don’t lose by 20+ every time.
Open 3s won’t fall. At least they won’t lose by making 20 turnovers again.
Stanton can’t buy a basket.
Expected this road loss despite LC’s poor record, but at least the TOs were way down today.
It’s hard to gauge this team because they’re just a few shots/TOs away from a winning record (despite the toughest schedule among Ivies). Having Davis back gets you both of those things obviously. But until he’s back, they just look like a very bad team that tries really hard.
I’m proud of the players for not hanging their heads. It’s an unfortunate situation made ugly by injuries, but you just gotta believe that things will come together if and when you get healthy.
Happy only 1 for 3 from beyond arc; clearly they were ready for him.
The game was lost when Hicke picked up that dumb 4th foul early in the 2nd half. The ball was basically on its way down when Hicke decided to run into the shooter
He was a total non-factor for the rest of the game, totally tentative on both ends.
How many close losses can one team take… in a row?
I believe 3-12 is the program worst in non-conference play. That ignominious record is very doable if Davis is out until league play (as I’m guessing he is).
SVP’s “Bad Beats” should be all over that otherwise meaningless buzzer beater 3 to end the game.
Another really tough loss. Team looked great in the first half until they hit the inevitable dry spell and things fell apart. Freshmen look more confident with each game. Turnovers were way down and they rebounded well in stretches but my goodness they seemed to lose a lot of rebounds from missed LC free throws. LC also hit some big threes at the end of scramble plays when Tigers almost had a steal or a rebound. Those really hurt. Referees didn’t decide the game but I thought there were some bad calls that went against us.
KenPom has Yale as the highest ranked non-conference SOS, with Princeton just behind that, and Cornell just behind that.
Today’s game vs. Loyola dropped them from 160 to 167. Yale currently at 165. Cornell 182.
Penn is at 277. Harvard is 269. Brown at 336. Columbia at 355. Dartmouth 353.
Who knows how that’ll change over time, but it’s a tough schedule for a team playing without its leading scorer/ballhandler (Davis) and rebounder (Abdullahi). Also missed Happy for a winnable game.
Penn playing Nova tonight so that rank will go up after this evening.
I thought Stanton looked more comfortable and aggressive bringing the ball up the court, and shooting off the dribble.
Penn went from 277 to 206 after tonight. The sad news is that they also had to play the game.
Penn really impressed me during their win streak… then Hofstra beat them by 17. Not sure where they stand come league play. I suspect our 13-game win streak will come to an end this season via split. Would love a Killer Ps matchup in the ILT.
I still feel like Stanton is being underused. He’s a star talent and the only other PG on the roster. We need to run a lot more plays for him.
Even though Whitfield was cold tonight, I love his fearlessness. He’s going to be great next season.
