Princeton-Yale

JLA will be PACKED with media and NBA scouts on press row this Saturday. As of yesterday, 5 NBA scouts on board to see John and Xaivian. Expect more.

More concerned about whether the team shows up.
Brown game will be tough. They need the win and Lewis
is back. We want to get some bench contributions, but
should play like there is no Saturday game.

At Yale, we just need to shoot, defend and rebound
better than last game. Easy stuff. Yale is very
good, but we mad e them look even better.
Hopung Pierce and Lee have too much pride
to come up empty again. Happy and Hicke
are going to see more significant time,
and we may try to pressure earlier.
We will learn a lot about the team this weekend.

This may sound strange, but I’m not too worried about this weekend.

  1. For all its struggles, this team is all but certain to make the ILT.
  2. To win the ILT, they will almost certainly have to face Yale (and Cornell) again anyway.
  3. It is very hard (though not impossible) to beat a Top 4 Ivy team 3/3 times in the same year.

I’ll be happy with an exciting game where our starters play well and stay healthy. I’d rather be 9-5 with a healthy Pierce and Lee than 12-2 with Xaivian reeling from stomach flu again.

The agenda for the weekend is:
Friday–Focus and don’t play down to the opponent’s level, attack them on both ends
Saturday–Show up this time. Finish at the rim, even through contact. Play physical basketball as needed, and get the bench energy in there early and often.

Since 2020, there seems to be a pattern of Princeton playing better in the second game against the Bulldogs than they did in the first game.

2020:
Game 1 64-88 (home)
Game 2 63-66 (away)

2021 COVID

2022
Game 1 74-80 (home)
Game 2 81-75 (away)
Game 3 64-66 (Neutral)

2023
Game 1 65-87 (away)
Game 2 83-93 OT (home)
Game 3 74-65 (home)

2024
Game 1 64-70 (away)
Game 2 73-62 (home)

Hope the trend continues!

I hope that MItch has some tactical moves he will hold until the ILT.

And Poulakidas

Not me. Ivy Championship is the top prize. The Tourney is gravy. I still believe that bid should go to the Champ and ILT should simply be a showcase for a possible 2nd bid, however remote that might be.
