Tonight, Yale takes the shortest road trip of the year to face QPac.
2nd or 3rd hardest OOC game according to the sites. I’m happy Amarri Moore stayed at Qpac for the sake of college basketball, hopefully our endless size can stifle him for 40 minutes.
I think we are very good.
Riley Fox as a sixth man is a champagne situation if ever there was one. I’m still concerned about how the spacing will hold up as we get into the season, but man alive, these first two games have looked good.
dam broke both nights when fox entered game
Beating the Patriot League (who put up a respectable outing at Penn State tonight) favorite and the MAAC favorite on the road to start the season has me dreaming of an at-large bid.
i will be in tuscaloosa 12/29 but aside from that we dont have any power 4 games which sucks
i am impressed with how connected this team is so far esp given how deep it is
the challenge as alluded to in postgame is how to allocate these minutes.
i still believe our most efficient lineup is not the starting 5 but thats just a real time observation.
aletan showed like he did playing with baylor at usa’s this summer that he is a power 4 big.
brathwaite broke out offensively
and perhaps the most enjoyable part was watching the freshmen. i agree with rutgers now on sullivan. he was always big but is a much more fluid athlete than he was in high school or say 2 yrs ago when i last saw him
Razor-thin margin there, especially because we don’t rate to have any Quad 1 or Quad 2 games outside of the Bama game. Would need to drop basically no games to keep that open imo.
largest home loss for quinnipiac since they joined the maac in 2013.
nolan groves had 16 rebounds in his first game for texas tech.
he was only a few weeks (and a few $mm) from being on this squad. crazy
Yale is 65 at KenPom. Have we ever been that high?
One benefit of big leads is getting to see the frosh play - and they looked good! Yale had risen to 65 on KenPom after the game.
We were 38 in KP after the Baylor win in 2015. I think we peaked in the low sixties in 2022-23 too.
crazy.
but i will eat crow because i said incessantly… i just did not think in this era the metrics would ever look so favorable (whether fleeting or not) on us bc of the disruptive change
i was right on some things…wolf leaving early and losing nolan groves are a sign of the times.
but the depth of talent is rising even as you chop the ceiling off.
all regressed against all star competition though admittedly that is mostly concentrated north of 65 in ken pom.
still monroe from QU is getting paid etc
btw wait until you see the bigs coming in next year if we keep them
lastly alabama guard play is ridic. this is the problem. gap bt haves and have nots is still high
we might see that on 12/29
poster.
fun to see samson on a healthy knee😳
I watched most of the first half of this game and it was striking how once Yale got used to Q’s perimeter size and quickness on defense they just ran away with the game. Really impressive play and teamwork. When the intangibles line up with the tangibles like this…But nobody’s conceding anything as far as the IL season or the conference tournament.
my best guess is yale doesnt shoot 60% from the field and 55% from 3 every game while turning it over less and outrebounding every opponent while using a 9-10 player rotation. i am going out on a limb but i especially doubt it happens in every road game.
i am disappointed and do wish more would concede. we could go game by game (looking at rhody or the hell pit in vermont) but if alabama were to concede that would be an epic win for the dogs and on the road. i am still hopeful as there is time yet
Yeah, like I said, I’m not sure I buy the shooting. The more film gets out there, the more teams will realize what they can give up and what they can’t (and maybe equally important, who they should be giving help against).
no way in hell… i do think we have different ways to beat teams potentially if we can sustain the connectedness; and mullin looks the part. this is encouraging assuming shooting is deceptively good so far
samson is healthy and can be a force.
fox can drive the ball and is an all around 3 level threat.
in general (besides fox) the bench is real. brathwaite et all can contribute to my earlier point of depth of talent. it does a dilemma on minutes but a high class problem which reinforces my first point
