Semi-finals vs Harvard

This should be a good one… expecting both teams to bring high energy. I think Columbia will take this one… 67-58 Lions.

I agree. Meg will get them back on track. Let’s Go Lions!

The IL offensive player of the year + the IL defensive player of the year + hope for some modest contribution from everyone else….

Pete has it right–67=58 Lions!

Looked like Riley was fouled before the buzzer.

But Harvard played well, deserved to win.

Can’t get a closer game than that.

The real missed call was the non-call on White fouling Feldrappe after she got a defensive rebound. It lead to a second chance 3 and a 4 point lead. That was a brutal segment.

This was the frame just before the clock reached 0.0.

You can see 0.1 still on the clock in this frame… not sure how you cannot let the call on the floor stand.

That was an embarrassing officiating decision. Most of the game was awful, but waving that off was completely unjustified. There was time on the clock and she was fouled. Columbia fought hard — defensive rebounding was a major problem though. Ultimately coughing up the lead last week was what put them in this position, and now they’ll settle for another NIT.

Not just that, but even if there was no time remaining when the foul occurred, Riley was clearly in the act of shooting so she was entitled to two shots.

Agreed. She definitely got the shot off after 0.0, but if you call a foul there, you should not overturn it.

It looked to me like two refs made different calls—one on the baseline called a foul and the one trailing the play called game over so they didn’t really waive off the call. They had to decide which of two calls was accurate. I thought she was fouled with 0.1 sec but it obviously could have gone either way.

I agree. I think the ref under the basket also has the best look for that call. The photo above shows this. That said, it’s common for out-of-position Ivy League refs to make calls like this.

Definitely could have gone either way, but if one ref calls it a foul, let it stand and send her to the line. Sometimes the refs wanna take the easy way out and just end it. Human nature.

Exactly. See if Weiss can hit 2 free throws.

Pretty sure we’ll have a home WNIT game next Thursday.

I agree with you. The trailing ref was probably focused on determining whether she got the shot off in time (which she didn’t). But the foul looked to be at 0.1.

I agree with the Tiger Fan. It might also be noted that the two TV announcers provided no clarification to the viewers while fawning all over the Harvard coach at the end of the game.

Great game. Looking at the photo, it confirms ball is still in her hand at 0.1. I also don’t yet see contact.

I didn’t think the video that TV fans saw clearly showed one way or the other. Which means the call on the floor should stand. I cannot say for certain what that call was because the ref could not have raised his/her arm in 0.1 second and I cannot say when the action they deemed to be the foul occurred. But if forced to choose I would have said the foul occurred at 0.1 second.

To me an impossible situation for the refs.
