Don’t even need to go to last season. She was the reason we won against Ball State in the Bahamas. She seems to like these high level games, as Weiss has also proven lately
I think it’s generally understood that you’re expressing your, not so humble, opinion. Speaking of which, do you see tonight’s results as an upset of sorts? You’ve already gone on record about Harvard’s win, of seven days ago, as having been no upset.
No, it is not an upset in NCAA terms, as we have currently higher NET than them. I don’t know why I’m explaining this again lol
It’s a fact that Princeton doesn’t lose at Jadwin - the last time being to Columbia, two years. Furthermore, no woman basketball opponent (and few males) has ever gone into Jadwin before tonight, taken the basketball and stuffed it down their orange-coated throats, to the tune of 34 points! If this wasn’t an upset, then I’ll accept it being referenced forever more as an incredibly pleasant surprise.
Riley Weiss was amazing tonight. One of the most memorable individual performances in Columbia basketball history. Kitty Henderson 3-point shot at the end of the game had mythical qualities. It was willed by the Greek Gods who favor Columbia. What an exciting game.!Thank you Megan for another fantastic victory!
It is a bit upsetting that she probably doesn’t have a realistic chance against Harmoni Turner this year, but her performances this season, culminated by this amazing game that I hope it wins us the IL regular season title, are deserving of a POY title
Amen!!
I do think it was an upset. You can’t expect to expect to go into Jadwin and beat a Tiger team that hadn’t lost there in a couple of years. Granted this P team is a hair worse than in previous years as they are missing Kaitlyn Chen and Elle (fogot last name) who was an all world rebounder and Madison St Rose is out. In years before that they had a host of other IVY POYs. This version of the Tigers is young as thier 2 top players are sophmores.
Nevertheless, This was one of the biggest wins in CU WBB program history.
One more thing: We can’t take for granted that we’re going to win the next three games. Remember a couple of years ago when we had all-time players like Kaitlyn Davis and Abby Hsu and Kitty and many other CU WBB greats and a mediocre Cornel team took us to OT on the last game of the season and we barely held on to win out 1st IL TITLE. We have to come ready to play.
I think for Riley to have a chance at IL POY and overtake Harmoni 2 things need to happen:
-
Riley averages about 28 PPG in the final 3 games (unlikely since they will likely be blowouts and Ruley may be one the bench for extended minutes).
-
Princeton beats Harvard (which makes H a 3rd place team).
I doubt Brown is going to be a blowout given how they played today (almost beat Harvard). But yes, I agree that in that case she might have a good chance.
Speaking about IL POY, how I see IL honors up to now is
POY: Harmoni Turner
DPOY: Mackenzie Egger
ROY: Katie Collins
COY: Megan Griffith
1st Team: Harmoni Turner, Riley Weiss, Kitty Henderson, Cecilia Collins, Stina Almqvist
2nd Team: Mackenzie Egger, Ashley Chea, Grace Arnolie, Victoria Page, Skye Belker
Maybe I’m a bit biased towards Columbia, but I think it makes sense given how the season has developed
Makes sense.
The Harvard coach may get COY since Coach G has already won it.
I hope CeCe makes 1st team but Chea may get in ahead of her.
I dont think Victoria Page makes 2nd team (maybe honorable mention) but one of the Harvard supporting players like Rodriguez gets the nod.
I don’t think Harvard will get COY. Specially if they don’t win next week over Princeton and end up third. Having an amazing player doesn’t make you an amazing coach.
The Cece/Chea is close, but Cece is better than her in all statistical categories except FT%, so I don’t see it. What might happen is that Egger gets in instead, to have a Forward, and not 5 guards. You might be right about Page though, but she has had some amazing games this season (29P against Yale, 26P at Penn, etc).
Man, this team is something special. I really thought they’d take a step back when Hsu graduated, but Griffith is probably one of the best program builders in the country. What she’s done is spectacular. If it’s a two-bid Ivy, which it should be, winning the conference outright would go a MASSIVE way to ensuring a tournament berth regardless of Ivy madness. But would be nice to win it anyway lol!
Thank you and I must say, I really respect your transparency in utilizing the eye test to come to some clear conclusions; and your refusal to hide behind NET’s skirt. It’s reason enough to call an upset alert on any day you come out ahead of Princeton’s mystique. And last Saturday’s Harvard won over Columbia was an upset, too - if you’re undefeated and playing in the second-half of your league’s season, at home, against a school that’s already lost twice, including once to you - you’re expected and expecting to win that game.
Okay, from now on we will define upsets as you wish. Can I have your contact so I can ask you every time I have a doubt if a result is an upset or not?
You certainly don’t need me to make your life complete. Just use your own eyes and ask yourself the question on that unique day of the month when you’re willing to be honest with yourself! Now these two games aren’t upsets on the scale of New York Jets/Mets, '69; or Foreman/Ali in '75; or the Miracle on Ice in '80; or the Red Sox storming back from 0-3 in 2004 versus the NYY. But they are on some level, NET be damned, upsets! Columbia certainly expects to win at Levien against a team they already beat in Cambridge and which struggled to beat Brown by a few. And Princeton losses at Jadwin are the clearest of outliers.
