Wins at end of game

Princeton now has 4 wins in games where the Tigers trailed with 6 seconds left. Xaivian made 2 FT against Iona with 3 seconds to go. Malik made a short push shot against Northeastern with 5 seconds to go. Caden made a short bank shot against Rutgers with 5 seconds to go. And yesterday Dalen made the 3 pointer against Akron with 2 seconds left. Also, Princeton took the lead for good against Monmouth when Blake made a 3-point shot with 1 minute 3 seconds left.

That’s amazing. On a similar note, Dalen also had a dagger 3 with 40s left vs. Duquesne to ice it (3pt lead > 6pts). But it’s worth noting the team has also lost 3 nail-biters: Loyola-Chicago, Texas State, Furman.

Basically, they’re 5-3 in super-close games that come down to the final minute. One one hand, it’s clear Lee, Pierce and Davis are big shot (play)makers. A rare skill.

At the same time, playing soooo many nail-biters is not a recipe for success. You can be great under pressure, but bad calls and fluke plays happen to everyone.

Princeton now up to 5 wins in regulation when they trailed with 7 seconds to go. To the first post in the thread, add the 3-point step back by Xaivian at Dartmouth with 6 seconds left. This also means Xaivian is the first Tiger with 2 of the late in game winning shots.

Princeton now has 6 wins when they trailed with 11 seconds to go. Has any Princeton player before Xaivian ever made game winning baskets (both 3-pointers) in the last 10 seconds of back-to-back games?

Can’t think of any but Matt Allocco had two fantastic game winners:

1/8/22 vs. Cornell https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men/article/2022-01-09/watch-princetons-matt-allocco-sinks-birthday-buzzer-beater-remains-top-ivy

12/2/23 vs. Furman Princeton University

Princeton now has 7 wins when they trailed in the last minute of the game. Penn was up 2 when Dalen Davis made a 3 with 33 seconds left, then tied before Jackson Hicke made 2 winning free throws with 0.6 seconds left. So, it’s also 7 wins where the Tigers scored the winning points in the last 11 seconds of the game.

This was certainly the least entertaining of the 7.

But I can’t deny the team has ice in their veins. Lee loses the ball but gets it to Hicke, who has the presence of mind to pump-fake and draw FTs.
