Women Post Season Awards

I think historically it is true that all else equal, the voting favors the more senior player (between a sophomore or junior who will return for additional season(s) and a graduating player, the graduating player is more likely to get the postseason honor). I think that is a reasonable tiebreaker but should not catapult an inferior player higher in the rankings. Your points about the transfer portal are also well taken.

Reasonable people can also differ in how much they weigh being on the best/deepest team(s) as a boost in POY voting. That would be more relevant if Columbia were, say, 6th place in the league – hard to see POY in any year coming from a 6th, 7th, 8th place team. But the difference in performance/standings between Columbia and Princeton this year is small enough that I don’t think it should be a significant factor. I don’t buy the logic that the best player on the best team MUST be POY.

I agree with all of that, and think it is probably a close call this year.
Again, it would not be close if Weiss was clearly the best all-around player on
a second place team that almost won the League, but I don’t see that as the case.
Page, a Senior, may be more valuable than Weiss. Given that, I would vote for St.
Rose, a senior leader returning from a devastating injury and guiding her talented
but thin team to a title.

Before Saturday, no question this was Riley’s to lose. And I think on balance her resume is enough to win the award.

I haven’t polled the Tiger players or coaches, but I imagine if they were asked if they had to nominate ONE teammate to be considered for POTY, it would be St Rose, even though Tall has often been the best player on the court.

Honestly, I suspect all of this debate matters more to us hangers-on than to the players. But I could be very wrong.

Unless one (or more) posters vote on the award, this discussion is like debating the best band/musician.

We will find out the results, then the complaints can begin.

How bout beatles or rolling stones? Discuss.

I do not wish to disclose my age or cause others to make embarassing musical revelations. This is why headphones were invented.

Actually, the big debate at that time was The Beatles vs. The Dave Clark Five.

Biggest surprise to me… Arnolie as a unanimous 1st teamer. I thought Tall deserved to be on the first team over Arnolie.

The other surprise was Page getting DPOY, and not being a unanimous 1st team selection.

I think to me the biggest surprises are Arnolie getting unanimous 1st team and not Page, and Collins getting 2nd team over her teammate Mataya Gayle or players like Hutcherson and Moore. I think the year of Katie Collins does not deserve such recognition, although I think she is a very good player. Everything else was kind of expected I feel

The league was more competitive this year than in recent years, but the All-Ivy team seems particularly weak. Arnolie is an Honorable mention most years. Even the POY backed into the award to some extent (she’s a great player and could be even better next year).
