Xaivian

@James - I’ve seen Florida 2-3 times and assume you’ve watched them more. Boogie has struggled as well. Any thoughts on Golden switching Lee and Fland up a bit more? Let Lee play the point more and move Fland to the 2, who has shot it a bit better. Seems sort of simplistic but might help some. Again, not a complete switch but a more balanced distribution of minutes.

it is a good point.

issue i see with that is fland appears to be a bit better at most pg duties than lee. he has been so far at least this year though i havent been blown away by him either.

also i have heard his nil (or rev share) deal mandated position and minutes but i cant confirm it. it comes from a great source and makes sense considering he was draftable last yr

i think you have to have fland on floor to defend sec pgs at the least.

the kid from e europe will steal more minutes from lee if he cant hit an open set shot bc neither play great defense

Jasmer, based on prior cases I’ve read about, I think it is likely much easier for Xaivian to get a Princeton degree if he does not graduate from U of Florida. If Xaivian does not graduate from U of Florida, then he would likely be able to transfer back to Princeton after the season or after his basketball career ends. He might or might not get credit for classes at Florida, so he could need as much as a full year of credit at Princeton to graduate. A large portion of the work in the last year is associated with a senior thesis. He might be able to do much of this work while playing professionally, as Chris Young did while playing minor league baseball.

Thnx Bryan! Good info! Was curious about this.

Both Armand Hill and Brian Taylor returned later t earn degrees.

Of course, they did not attend another school. I don’t know

what level of class work is necessary to maintain eligibility, but my guess is it is less than Lee would need to graduate.

How can Spencer Gloger not be mentioned?

He never played anywhere else–might have transferred to UCLA and back, but never played there.

I had forgotten that.

But that speaks more to his basketball eligibility than to his ability to transfer back and graduate.

So if we ignore basketball, Xavian (per Bryan above) can get his Princeton degree in the future if he does not graduate from Florida.

xaivian is going to have a lot of free time playing overseas next year

I believe he would have to transfer back, but that assumes there is no leave of absence policy at Princeton allowing someone to matriculate at another school and come back. I don’t know that one way or the other.

He’s a senior at UF. Why would he not graduate? Among other things it’s a PIA to be trying to pursue a career and still be taking courses.

Agreed, but this is all in answer to a hypothetical question.

The one-and-done “students”, I have read, often show up for no classes second semester.

Lee played very well in a losing effort against UConn at the Garden.

His defense has really improved.

He just can’t find his outside shot this season, not even off the dribble. It’s clearly mental at this point.

Golden bringing in Boogie Fland after he already got Xaivian was a disaster. Blake Peters would be a better complement to Lee than Fland.

I agree with you. fland has been a far more effective two way player thus far. This being said I am forced to watch nearly all gator games (help) and they just dont both play well at the Same time

Lee couldve scored 30. Had countless open looks. He played a nice floor game overall

Fland sucked.

Stats looked great except 3 pt %

Lee played very well once Fland was off the floor from foul trouble. He looked pretty much how I would have hoped, to be honest, except for maybe hesitating a little bit on his outside shots. A couple of beautiful drives and interior passes, a nice finish off a drive, a very tricky underhand scoop that drew a foul, excellent transition lob passes, and gritty defense and rebounding (he was bounced off a zillion screens chasing Solo Ball around the court in the UConn offense). Even had a couple of steals.

Second half wasn’t as good, with Fland getting more minutes.

Given the Gators’ personnel, (three bigs, of whom two are good passers and can play a bit away from the hoop), I couldn’t help thinking that they would be a great triangle offense team. Gaugh and Golden could be the more mobile verticies and Chinyelu could be the Bill Cartwright type. Then Fland and Lee could have more space to work without compromising the possessions used by the bigs.

Great game for Xaivian today; leading all scorers with 4.5 minutes left. 4 for 7 from 3.

X led all scorers with 24 points on 6/11 shooting (4/8 from deep), 6 rebounds, 4 assists. Rest of team went 2/19 from deep.

He actually looked comfortable catching and shooting 3s. I’m sure he’s working on it like crazy.

Still can’t finish inside but that was to be expected. He’s gotta learn a floater.
