Xaivian

the bad news… it was gw not alabama etc

the yo yo continues. lee better the last 2 games while fland was bad on o

i cant imagine lee can shoot under 30 for a season from 3 with all the open looks he gets thanks to fland and the bigs

Hmmm. Would be the same if he were still at Princeton.

Concur on the floater. That would be a huge addition to the arsenal.

An optimistic turn over the last five games:

As James said, let’s see if he can do it consistently against top competition.

I think Xaivian has legit NBA talent, but I also think he miscalculated his jump. He should have gone to a lesser power conference team that would still run the offense through him.

They wouldn’t pay him 6M.

If he can shoot, he’ll have the ball in his hands more.

Apparently I was wrong; even when Lee is shooting well Fland and others get lots of chances to miss from outside, per Gatorcountry:

”Stop me if you’ve heard this again, but the Gators lost another tight game in which they couldn’t make shots from deep. Playing against a Missouri team who protects the paint at a high level and gives up a ton of threes the Gators were 7-27 for 26%, and while it looked for a while like they were actually going to have a solid shooting game down the stretch it was airball after airball and clank after clank, and it almost seemed poetic that the shot to win was a three from Boogie Fland who missed, finishing the game 0-6 from behind the arc. One bright spot from a three-point shooting standpoint was Xaivian Lee who finished 3-7, and the Gators hope they can keep him going at a higher level. Another storyline that repeated was the Gators once again struggling to convert against zone coverage, something that has been a story all year and word is making its way around the SEC, so you can bet Florida will be seeing more of it until they can solve their problems.”

Weird game tonight. Both Lee and Fland shot poorly but they still won easily over #18 Georgia, largely because their starting center and elite shot blocker was ejected early with a Flagrant 2. Both made nice passes but the 3s still ain’t falling.

Florida simply wasn’t the right place for him. Better to get 3M in NIL where he can dominate the ball than 6M to have a clogged paint and be the secondary ballhandler. His NBA stock is cratering even though the talent is there in my opinion.

It’s not like he was an NBA lottery pick lock playing in princeton’s system. His game always had flaws Ups and downs. Nothing different now.

His NBA stock always seemed to be pretty exaggerated. Guys with that body type/athleticism in the league are outliers, not the expectation. Now he has a 6 million dollar paycheck for less than a year fo work, seemed to work out pretty well for him.

Sam Vecenie from The Athletic just posted his list of the top 100 NBA draft prospects. Xaivian is not on the list.

Well, I think then that taking the $6 million was a very very smart move, don’t you?

As long as he invests it wisely. I’m sure he has contacts from Princeton who can help him do so.

Agree. Taking $6mil to play basketball is a smart move for a basketball player. It might have been the max contract this season. Again, he’s an example of a kid who wants to be a pro and maximize his basketball potential. Like many kids, including Ivy Leaguers, he doesn’t want to be an investment banker. He’ll probably play overseas for 10 years and make decent money.

Great game for Xaivian vs. #10 Vandy. Big stepback 3 to take the lead in the final minute. That’s the Lee I remember.

Great for the Gators.

On Instagram xaivian lee notes “ I have been getting shots at Florida that are easier than I got a Princeton. And I couldn’t hit anything”

:backhand_index_pointing_up:t3:just as I noted. But but the bigs clog the lane.

Nope they do not.

Open set shots at any level of basketball are very rare
