It amazes me that Yale has done next to nothing to promote this weekend’s home game against Holy Cross or the rest of the season, for that matter. I bought tickets from Harvard last year for The Game and I now get at least a weekly email promoting its home games, across sports, but particularly for football. And it’s pretty well done, btw. Two generations ago, Yale often had 30,000 for home games, with more for Harvard(60,000 often), Princeton and often Dartmouth. Even a generation ago, I think the base was 15,000. Now? A few thousand, with 50,000 for Harvard (and it’s a good thing they don’t get more because Yale has forgotten how to run its parking lots). Will marketing make a difference? You can’t be sure but isn’t it worth some effort?

We can only hope that the possibility of a national championship will help, but I am not confident that it will.
