#9 Tigers vs. #8 Okie St

Tigers play Cowgirls Saturday at #1 seed UCLA.

Six players who play the bulk of the minutes for Ok St go 5’6”, 5’8”, 5’10”, 5’11”, 5’11”, 6’1”

Some huge blowouts out-of-conference skew their overall team statistics. 12-6 in the Big 12, loss in the first round of their tournament to Kansas State (who beat Columbia by 3 back in November). Lost to St.John’s. Overall, seems like a winnable game (as an 8/9 game should be). Good luck!

Good info!

Thanks for the quick scout, Michael!

If they beat OK St, Lauren Betts will be a handful. They had a hard time with Gracie Merkle in the Penn State game and Betts is 1000x the player Merkle is. And an inch taller

But you never know…

Getting a 9 seed is nice for a mid-Major if you want to win a game. But it’s a killer if you hope to win 2

There was an article the past day or so about how UCLA outranked UConn in several metrics. But the key is not to think about that matchup and focus on the immediate task. Also to figure out which team gets to wear the school colors of orange and black. I expect by now everyone knows about the school history of OSU relative to PU.

LA isn’t a good destination for those of us in NJ, but with 3 players on the team from LA, and a big local alum base, we should be well represented.

A great Tiger upset of the then-Big Eight Champion Oklahoma State Cowboys in 1984, after the Tigers won a “preliminary round” game to reach the round of 32. The upset prompted the Dallas Morning News (?) to run one of the great headlines of all times “Mammas don’t let your Cowboys grow up to play Ivies” (a riff on the great Willie Nelson/Waylon Jennings song “Mammas don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys.”)

I remember watching that game in a restaurant, back in the days when Tiger fans could make gains in the office pools over oblivious “experts” who never gave ivys a chance when facing hugely favored big time teams.

Ummmm, no explanation needed.

A great team that gave a very good BC team a good run in the next round. Isaac Carter sixth man.

Don’t let em play guitars or drive them ole trucks, make em be doctors and lawyers and such.

Cowboys love Smokey ole pool halls and clear mountain morning…

little warm puppies and children and girls of the night.

One of my best buds freshman year introduced me to country music and brought back the article about the Tigers great win—it was taped to my dorm room when I got back from spring break.

I do think you guys have a slight edge on this one. Both teams are very similar: short teams with gameplans based on execution. Thrive in high-% shot situations. OSU is one of the worse defensive teams in the country when factoring out defensive rebounds. They are not an OREB minded team, which I believe to be Princeton’s achilles. Their efficiemcy drops significantly when they are not good from the 3pt line. If you are able to contain the perimeter, you should be able to pull the upset.

As you indicate, the Cowgirls are not big and probably not going to out-physical Princeton: the starting five are 5’8”, 5’10”, 5’11”, 5’11” and 6’1.” They all average in low double figures, and the leading scorer is Micah Gray (13.8 ppg), who played at Seton Hall as a sophomore. She was the Pirates’ leading scorer in the game with Princeton (24 pts), which we won in OT, 75-71. They play basically with a 6-player rotation, as we do, with a few minutes allotted to other bench players. With the game scheduled for Saturday night, the coaches have time to prepare a good game plan, which if well executed, could result in an upset. And they showed against Harvard that they can win without relying on 3-pt shooting; they made only 1 three pointer in the 63-53 victory.

If they can out physical Tall they will win. Otherwise we shall be ok

The Athletic does not list Tigers on their 10 most likely upsets. I choose to believe this means they don’t think it would be an upset.

Shocked that the money line is up to +225.

And pissed because I put in a bet at +190 last night. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Let’s get this one. Go Tigers!
