Krikorian inherited a program that had a 25 year winning culture including 12 NCAA appearences. He has maintained that (and won a national title). Klatsky went to a conference that had been dominated by other schools (Emory and WashU) and did what no one else could do in 30 years in a place that is very difficult to recruit. Klatsky has a high “figure it out” factor which is what Penn needs. He recruited 5th years because that’s what it took to win. He didn’t have to do that, he figured it out and executed. I think he will figure it out at Penn, if that’s the choice. I am not against Krikorian, he would also be an excellent choice, I just think Klatsky has a better chance of success given all the moving parts.

It appears that the decision is down to Klatsky and Fran.
Gotta hire Klatsky. Easy choice.
Arop, Cobb and five seniors.
8 years before Coach K’s arrival, CNU has 16 wins per year. No sweet 16. Last 10 years, 25 wins per year, 7 sweet sixteens, 3 final fours, and a chip. Took over in a bad league, now one of toughest schedules in the country year after year. Klatsky used the transfer portal to get 5 players, and 3 of those transfers were top 5 in scoring (all top 10 in minutes) on the team. In going to the portal, Klatsky is sacrificing the long term success and development for the short term “figuring it out now.” Not saying that Klatsky is a bad coach, cause clearly he turned NYU around. Just that Krikorian’s success will last, if he is given the opportunity.
Lots of smoke that it’s going to be McCaffery.

Legit Iowa reporter says it’s Fran
Fran seems to support NIL. Can’t wait to see how he plans to reform the system.
Antiungvar - it’s three riising seniors (Noland, Bedri and now Thompson) in the portal, not five. Noland and Bedri entered the portal before the Kevin Hovde announcement, and I would be shocked if they actually leave Columbia, particularly Noland. So your being the harbinger of doom is not helpful.
You wrote on ‘leaving Columbia’ Five seniors are leaving Columbia mens’ basketball in less than 60 days - having nothing to do with the transfer portal; but they’ve used up their Ivy League eligibility, so they’re ‘leaving’. I’m sorry this is such an unfortunate situation all the way around for all parties.
From you: [quote=“OldBlue, post:58, topic:408, full:true”]
Again, portal or no portal, only Cobb is actually leaving Columbia besides possibly Arop.

As far as the no portal/no flux portion of the matter, Cooper, DeLaRosa, Robledo, Stankard and Tavroff (all FIVE, graduating seniors) are done with Columbia basketball.
For anyone on the old board reading this who is still skeptical, Adam Zagoria has it too: NCAA Coaching Carousel: Penn Targeting Former Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery
Avery Brown now in the portal as well, according to verbal commits. So that’s the entire junior class.
Can we move this to the Columbia Men offseason thread? It feels off talking about columbia transfers and Penn coaching hires at the same time
So, you’re saying Bedri and Noland are still in the portal?
