Game Thread: Iona (11/04/24)

Let’s give this new forum a try! Here’s a preview for the season opener:

As per media coverage, I’m expecting a starting lineup of: Davis, Peters, Lee, Pierce, Huggins. Probably 2-3 players off the bench cracking the rotation too.

Iona should be a good test. They have former FDU coach Tobin Anderson and fresh talent transferring in, but this is a game we should definitely win, especially at home.

So Iona’s coach favors full court pressure, and the players are mostly new to the program as transfers.

I am very much looking forward to seeing Dalen Davis as a starter.

Another article near the start of the season. I wasn’t expecting to see Seals as the only freshman mentioned.

For Princeton basketball, the culture has a new wrinkle: NBA scouts

And one more:

5th starter will be interesting, seems like Huggins has the edge in terms of size and previous playing time.

Oops, sorry for the repost!

Despite the accolades in the article, he will have a tough time getting minutes, I suspect.

Interesting that Seals was singled out, possibly due to the NJ connection from a local paper. Malik Abdullahi, Jack Stanton and CJ Happy were more highly touted coming in. But as we have seen with Pierce and Lee, the coaches know what they are doing when they assemble a recruiting class.

Do we foresee Lee or Davis bringing the ball up the court and setting up the offense?

Who makes the corner three (replacing Martini) when the defense collapses on the lane?

Jackson Hicke with the start - not Peters. Interesting.

Wondering if Peters will be an off the bench guy like he has the last couple seasons

Peyton Seals wearing a face mask.

Malik Abdullahi in the game.

Adam Zielonka: BREAKING: Deven Austin has taken a leave of absence from Princeton for personal reasons, an athletics official confirmed. Massive development for the Tigers. Austin was set to return from a knee injury that cost him the end of his freshman season and all of his soph campaign.

Iona’s pressure is really bothering us. Missing FTs and open jumpers don’t help.

Very touch and go early on. Hope they recover in the second half.

Wow!

Hope he’s okay and it’s nothing worrisome. With his recovery going slower than expected, I wonder if he’s preserving yet another year of eligibility.

I mean we’re at 1.25 points per possession, this is all about defense (predictably, especially given the matchup)

Iona is playing a great game - making lots of tough shots and executing their press perfectly.

Davis looks very off tonight.
