Northeastern @ Princeton

Princeton -2.5

It would be nice to see Davis make more three-pointers and fewer midrange jumpers.

Likewise Happy must hit some 3’s for the offense to work.

Has Whitfield earned more PT?

Will Clark become an effective shooter?

Nothing wrong with mid range makes. Over reliant on the 3 leads to L’s.

True, “not that there’s anything wrong with that”.

But the entire offense would work better with the defense stretched by effective three point shooting, e.g. better than 4 for 24.

A balanced offense is the key. Against kansas they were running a lot of traditional princeton offense. And it worked. For some reason the head coach is in love with 5 out offense without a lot of effective shooters. Outside of Hicke battling inside they have basically zero inside scorers.

Agreed. But are some of our players better shooters than we have seen to date? I hope this is the case for Happy, Clark, Whitfield, and Stanton.

Stanton could be blake peters type. Clark is billed as scoring potential. We’ll see about the others.

Best Huggins move of all time!

Nice first half, but it feels like the lead should be even bigger. Tigers looked great on D for many possessions and then gave away easy hoops. On the other end, some great ball movement produced open shots followed by stagnant standing around, Princeton was fortunate that NE did not play or shoot well, they will need to play more consistently in the second half.

This team is just so raw. So many silly TOs and countless missed layups. They probably shoot 20% at the rim. To be fair, these are issues that will improve over time, but I don’t know if they’ll get there this season. I hope Davis stays for his senior year.

Huggins looks good tonight though. Happy has really struggled to start the season and I think it’s time to start Jacob and let him play 25+ minutes.

Dalen Davis is down and not getting up. Oh no.

Seems like a season-ending injury like an Achilles or something.

EDIT: They said it was his right ankle. Hopefully his season isn’t over.

And then an aimless possession with Hicke forcing up an ugly shot, ugh. 11 point lead does not feel secure.

This team was hard to watch WITH Davis. Without him, it’s going to get very, very ugly.

Nothing to do but play for the future. This season was going to be futile anyway.

Hope it’s only a high ankle sprain, not low like Caden. But not good for upcoming tourney.

Imploding without Davis. Can’t inbound the ball. Can’t dribble, can’t pass.

Welp, they held on for the win, but that was brutal to watch.

Losing Dalen long-term would be catastrophic. He was on the bench with a jumbo ice pack, so maybe he’ll only miss a few games. In his absence, Jack Stanton needs to grow up very quickly.

On the bright side, Abdullahi and Huggins were great today, even from the FT line.

Even if Stanton is adequate at point, who is the backup??

Funny to hear Noah talk about the trashcan full of ice water–been there, done that.

No idea who else can play point. Hicke can pass but his handles are weak.

Glass half full thinking:

As with Lee last year, it often feels like the team is standing around watching Davis on offense. After all, he’s clearly the best scorer. But playing without him for a few weeks (hopefully not more) will force them to play differently. More aggressively. Take shots they normally wouldn’t. It’ll result in a lot of ugly losses in the short-term, but maybe they’ll be better for it in the long-term.

I agree that the team will be more active without the ball in Davis’s hands.

Is Seals the logical player to spell Stanton?

For some reason, Seals has barely played so far. Feels like Whitfield and even Hammond are ahead of him in the depth chart.

Maybe Whitfield handles the ball more when Stanton is out?

I guesss Davis gets MRI today. Would not expect MItch to reveal much.
