Princeton coaches

According to the Daily Princetonian and other sources, assistant coaches Brett MacConnell and Lawrence Rowley are no longer with the staff. This is a developing story with apparently may layers and a 2-sided story.

Welp, it looks like I’m not the only one who was massively disappointed by the past season (and past 2 ILTs). That said, I don’t think MacConnell and Rowley should be the scapegoats, especially the former.

Just two years later, MacConnell and assistant coach Lawrence Rowley have been asked not to return to the Tiger bench following a tumultuous season that saw the Tigers eliminated in the Ivy Madness semifinals despite being picked as the overwhelming preseason favorite to play in the NCAA tournament.

The ‘Prince’ independently verified that MacConnell’s contract is not expected to be renewed and Rowley is not expected to be retained for the 2025-2026 season.

Parsing the different language used for MacConnell and Rowley (not renewed vs. not retained), it feels like the two may be in slightly different boats.

I wonder if MacConnell is accepting a head coach job while Rowley is simply being let go. After all, I don’t see how MacConnell can be blamed for the past season - his recruiting efforts are unimpeachable and he was once again invited to the “Elite 75” conference for top assistants being eyed for HC jobs.

Mitch may be the program’s favorite son, but I suspect him keeping his job has more to do with keeping Lee and Pierce around. Can’t afford to lose either one. Next season may be his make-or-break year.

Doesn’t have anything to do with how the season went, according to rumors.

Can’t believe MacConnell got canned. I thought he was going to be Mitch’s replacement.

Similar to an nfl coach firing a coordinator. Buys himself another year. It’s the other guys fault.

“Buys himself another year”??? Henderson has as many years as he wants, man.

Mitch has 3 regular season titles (share/solo) in the last 4 years and made the Sweet 16 (SWEET SIXTEEN) 2 seasons ago. I cannot believe people want him gone.

Yep. Someone had to take the fall and it wasn’t going to be Mitch, especially since Xaivian and Caden probably leave if he goes.

That said, I still suspect MacConnell will land a HC job elsewhere. He may have been leaving regardless.

it is nonsensical.

no one will sniff the sweet 16 again from this league unless we pay players.

but yet they want him gone. makes sec football fans on x seem rational

You’re like Trump. There’s no “fall” in the first place. You’ve been calling for Henderson to be fired and replaced by MacConnell for awhile.

Reg season titles are nice. We’re in the ivy tourney era. Not a player wouldn’t trade a reg season title to dance. Mitch has danced twice. It’s a March sport.

Hard to know the dynamics between a head coach and his assistants. For the anti-Mitch group, recall that Princeton was one missed Xavian Lee three from knocking off Yale in the Ivy tournament and facing Cornell in the final. I’m happy Yale has James Jones (and please let that continue to be true for years to come) but Princeton fans should similarly appreciate Mitch.

I doubt the answer is McConnell is getting a
head coaching job. That would be the
announcement.
He made big contributions to the program,
and I hope there is no controversy.
I don’t have much of a sense about Rowley.
Wonder if Gore moves up or we hire
a new associate head coach.

Princeton made the Sweet 16 two years ago. That was in March.

Mitch is 3-14 vs. James Jones. Of course Yalies want to keep him around  But in any case, he’s not the one who’s being let go.

I always thought TJ Bray would make a great coach. Maybe Gore gets promoted to BM’s job and a former player is brought aboard as a young assistant.

Princeton fans wouldn’t have survived Jones first 15 years.

So if Mitch announced tomorrow that he’s taking the Penn job, you’d be good with that?

They need more than Mitch.

Is this what you’re talking about? (I don’t have a Twitter account so I’m using a mirror site)

I’ll wait till an actual reporter verifies this Twitter rumor (account seems to be a recent alum/superfan, but if true… yikes.
