Princeton @ Temple

Princeton +9.5

Until Davis comes back, we don’t have enough offense to beat any half-decent team. I’m circling the Vermont rematch on the 30th as Dalen’s earliest possible return date. Just a guess on my part, but I don’t see any reason for him to hurry back for this game.

Layup drills? These aren’t even contested. But somehow no lost points on a per-possession basis.

The classic hook from Abdulahi! Now let’s see some D.

Two blocks for Abdulahi so far. Except for the Owls’ big guy, not a lot of great shooting from the rest of the Temple team.

Could use more trey attempts IMO, but I guess it is hard to turn down those close-in shots even when shooting like 20% on them.

Nice backdoor layup by Happy.

Backdoor again! Give and go to Abdulahi is pretty.

Down 17-23 with 6:38 left in the first half isn’t terrible. Temple is killing the Tigers down low on offense the last few possessions, and Princeton has hit three backdoors in a row off three different actions, making the layup percentages a little less hideous.

As predicted, seeing a lot more classic Princeton offense.

This may be Abdulahi’s most impactful game as a Tiger.

26-29 with 3:08 left. PU having a lot of trouble with Temple ball screens, but they have three blocks so far and aren’t getting killed on the glass. Offense has picked up some rhythm with ball movement and inside-outside action now that Abdulahi is scoring at the rim.

A Huggins sighting! Ties the score and gets to the line, but he misses the FT.

Another great defensive play by Abdulahi, walling up and forcing the turnover. Then some good movement draws two non-shooting fouls, and then a shooting foul on the same possession.

Hicke makes up for missing all those chippies with an NBA 3 at the first half buzzer.

The most attractive if not the best half of Princeton basketball I’ve seen this season. The offense flowed very well with the right balance between one-man scoring moves and team actions, very little hesitation or confusion, few turnovers. And there were enough good defensive plays to make the numerous lapses palatable.

Oh no. They’re actually gonna lose a 7th straight close game, aren’t they?

I’ve never been so proud of a terrible team. They’re not good at anything yet somehow, through sheer force of will, they manage to play close games over and over again against teams that are commensurate to Ivy competition.

If and when Dalen returns for Ivy play, maybe that’ll be enough to sneak into the ILT. I still say no, but I won’t fall out of my chair if they flip a switch next month.

Happy with three consecutive misses off decent looks.

No foul called when Hicke’s arm hit on the trey attempt, then iffy third foul on Abdulahi.

Second half is more gritty and less pretty. Clark with the four-point play is pretty cool.

Abdulahi injured. Looks like a shot to the thigh.

Tigers are defending a lot harder under the rim. Temple has hit some low-probability shots, but the advantage of having a true point guard in Mason has shown up a few times.
